Zen Cart Credit Layaway Module

Zen Cart Credit Layaway Module
Zen Cart module needed to manage installment payments.

Experience with Zen Cart a must

Module, should be a standard Zen Cart 1.3.8a. implementation and located in the “modules/order_total” folder — similar to the Gift Certificate module. We would like to install it.

Module should calculate payments based on customer’s and admin’s input, however, only the first payment needs to be processed through the shopping cart. We will manage remaining payments offline.

On page 2 of 3 of Zen Cart checkout, customer will select LAYAWAY, CREDIT, or regular checkout.

Customer will be able to select number of months to pay and down payment amount they wish to pay. These values will be set in the Admin panel.

On page 3 of 3 of Zen Cart checkout (confirmation), customer should be presented with verification of Installment Payment Info such as number of installments, monthly payment, down payment, interest rate, and balance.

Module should just pass down payment info to any installed gateway (PayPal, money order, Auth.net, etc) for processing.

Installment payment info should be included in the receipt/confirmation emails to customer and store owner.

Installment payment transaction should be noted in customer’s account.

Store owner should be able to adjust the following in the Admin panel:
– Minimum purchase and down payment requirements
– Interest Rate (for credit option)
– Handling fee
– “Number of months” options for layaway
– “Number of months” options for credit
– A special authorization code for credit (like a coupon code)

We are located in the US eastern time zone (GMT -5) – Team must communicate by phone or email between the hours of 9am to 10pm EST.

Potential developers may contact us direct if needed.

Automated Reservation System

Automated Reservation System
I’m looking to develop a web based reservation system for our dueling piano bar. Currently, we accept our reservations online through a simple email form, that has to be manually copy/pasted from the email to our reservations spreadsheet. Then a confirmation email is sent out manually. While this has worked for the first year of the business, we are growing at a rate where automating the reservation process would be beneficial. Our current website is located at http://www.DuelingPianoPiano.com

I’m looking for a reservation system where guests can click on a time on a calendar similar to the reservations calendar at http://theshouthouse.com/San_Diego/reservations.asp . The times will vary based upon the night of the week. There should be default times for those days of the week which can be overridden manually for special events, etc, via an Admin CMS of sorts.

Once a guest selects a date and time, they will be presented with a form similar to the one we already have, with some minor field changes (Add Zip Code, and Retype Email fields for starters). Once they fill out the form they should be able to submit payment for the reservations if applicable. (Free for Wed & Thurs, $2 per seat for Friday, $3 per seat for Saturday) This should also be based on a default for the day of the week , which could be overridden for special events (New Year’s Eve – $50, etc.) There should be a check box for confirming that they read the “Reservation Policy” which is still being finalized for the new system.

I have not yet selected a Credit Card processor yet, but we have hosting through GO DADDY, if you have experience with their system, otherwise, I’ve heard good things about Authorize.net.

The reservation should automatically populate an internal admin accessible web based spreadsheet for the night selected, and display an instant confirmation, as well as email them a copy of their confirmation. Because we have a capacity of 220 guests, once that capacity has been reached, no new reservations should be accepted, and a NON CONFIRMATION should be instantly displayed and emailed, with suggestions of dates that still have availability, that a guest can select without having to reenter their information. A separate list of NON-CONFIRMED reservations should be collected, so that we can see exactly how many people we have had to turn away for any specific date.

Additional features:
1. Reservation reminder email – 72 hours prior (text to be provided)
2. Reservation reminder email – 48 hours prior (text to be provided)
3. Reservation reminder email – 24 hours prior (text to be provided)
4. Cancel reservation button in Confirmation Email and all reminder emails, should require secondary “Are you sure..” button.
5. Modify reservation button in Confirmation Email and all reminder emails, should allow changing reservation time/guest count. System will need to check for availability prior to accepting modification, and prompt with additional credit card form if adding guests.
6. Admin can manually enter/modify/cancel reservations without using the front end.
7. Admin can manually send duplicate confirmation emails.
8. Should be able to print a printer friendly “Reservations Sheet” for any night.
9. System should have a “Grey List” feature that Admin can send no-show reservations to create a warning if they make another reservation in the future.
10. Guest should be able to modify/cancel reservations up until 48 hours prior to date.
11. If possible, reservations canceled prior to 48 hours prior to date, should be automatically refunded, if not it should send an email to an admin address with the details of the refund that needs to be done manually by the admin.
12. If possible, reservations that are modified to a smaller number should automatically refund the value of the released seats, if not it should send an email to an admin address with the details of the refund that needs to be manually by the admin.
13. Emails are collected in a separate text file for harvesting later, for internal email marketing purposes.
14. System should send a daily email showing a list of total seats reserved for all individual days of the current month and next month, with monthly seats reserved count.

There might be a few additional features as the system is developed, but the more hands off for me, the fewer cut/paste errors can be made, and confirmations can be granted instantly, the better.

Upon selection for the project, I will walk you through our current system (currently housed in Google Docs) to use as a jumping off point in developing the automated system.

Redesign and Other Tuts News

Redesign and Other Tuts News

Over the last three days we’ve been steadily rolling out a new Tuts+ theme across all 8 sites. The new design is a refinement more than a big change, with lots of little improvements in usability and more suited to big screens. Read on to learn more about the redesign and lots of news about Plus!

1 The Plus Project

As you may know we have some pretty big plans for these Tuts+ sites. While today they are humble little tutorial blogs, we’ve thought for some time that it would be cool to build an entire platform for education. We’re going to call that platform Plus. You’ll know Plus content as our premium content, but no longer.
Our premium content is now ‘Premium’ (go figure!) and Plus is the brand for the educational platform we’re building, which, just like Psdtuts+, will be completely free for the most part.

With Tuts+ well established now, we’ve finally begun work on the project! We’ve acquired the domain Plus.org which will be the home of the new platform (yay for our first four letter domain!) We’ve also brought over our resident code genius Ryan Allen (who built our ActiveDen platform all by himself back in 2006) to team up with Tuts+ developer extraordinaire Fred Wu and kick ass front-end guru Derek Herman. And Skellie and I have been busy spec’ing out the plans for the new site, and it’s pretty, damn cool if I do say so myself!

Right now the Tuts+ sites are fairly passive, but we’d like to get the whole community involved in writing, teaching, answering questions and generally learning. The new Plus.org platform promises to incorporate all that plus some nifty ideas we’ve taken from gaming to come together into a social education platform.

It’s going to take a long time and we’re going to roll it all out in pieces over the next 2 years. We’re super excited about it all, and I hope I’ll have more updates in the coming months!

2 Creative Sessions and Mobiletuts+

While Plus.org will take a long time, we do have some new goodies coming much sooner including Creative Sessions which is being built now, and also Mobiletuts+ which will be all about mobile development!

3 Server Update

About a week and a half ago we had some major problems with our servers. I’m happy to say that we’ve now completely resolved these issues by moving hosts and reengineering our hosting setup completely from scratch. The new setup is much quicker and has a much greater capacity for growth, so fingers crossed, that will be the last server outage for a long time to come!

4 The Redesign

The new theme has a few neat features you may want to check out including:

  • Basix!
    While Tuts+ has always been known for intermediate to advanced level content, we’ve been thinking it’d be good to separate out tutorials and articles better suited to people just getting started. So we’ve created the Basix tag for quick browsing. You’ll find it in the top menu, and expect to see more Basix content soon as we beef up our library of novice-friendly content.
  • Easy access to Videos, Tips and Premium Posts
    We’ve also started tagging videos, tips and Premium membership posts so that along with Basix content you can quickly find what you’re after. We’re generally going to be working to clean up our category/tagging across the network in the coming months to get it more standardized.
  • Tutorial Details on Posts
    We’re also going to start standardizing all tutorials to have a "Tutorial Details" section at the top with difficulty and other pertinent details. Eventually we’ll get all the archives updated … but with over 2000 tutorials, that will take a while!
  • Bigger, more readable content area
    We’ve expanded the site to be optimized for bigger 1280px wide screens, with a bit of JavaScript to resize for smaller resolutions. This has given us the space to clean up the content area to be a bit bigger and more readable generally.
  • Latest Creattica content for inspiration
    We’ve also started porting over the latest Creattica content into our sidebars. There’s actually a redesign of Creattica coming in the next few weeks and we’ll be expanding the gallery to cover even more types of inspiration. The new sidebar widget will give even more exposure to those talented creatives on Creattica!
  • General UI Improvements
    Most of the improvements on the new design are small, subtle improvements such as a reduction in the number of clicks needed to browse categories, a clearer search field, faster loading pages and generally cleaner, more optimized code.

One change that we have also made is to remove the community link feed. Over the years this was a great way to get exposure to community links, but unfortunately was also home to a lot of spam. So with this iteration we’ve left it behind.

Also at the moment sites with Flickr groups don’t have it showing, but don’t worry that’ll be back. There’s just a problem with our Flickr plugin at the moment!!

There are still some more tweaks to do to the new design and a lot of post formatting to do to get our archives matching up with the new theme. But for all intents and purposes the new theme is now alive and well! Enjoy!

Quick Tip: The HTML 5 Audio Element

Quick Tip: The HTML 5 Audio Element

As of Firefox 3.5, Chrome 3, Opera 10.5, and Safari 4, we can take advantage of many of the new HTML 5 features, including native audio support without the need for Flash. As you’ll find, we only to create the new <audio> element, and set a few attributes. In this four minute video quick tip, we’ll review the mark-up, and also a quick way to play audio with jQuery.

The Audio Element

<audio autoplay="autoplay" controls="controls">
	<source src="file.ogg" />
	<source src="file.mp3" />
</audio>

The audio element accepts a handful of attributes, most notably:

  • autoplay : Immediately plays the file when the page loads.
  • controls : Displays the player on the page.
  • preload : Immediately begins buffering the file. (values = none, auto, metadata)
  • src : The path to the file name. It’s a better practice to load the file via the child “source” element instead.

Mozilla and Webkit don’t fully get along just yet, when it comes to the audio format. Firefox will want to see an .ogg file, while Webkit browsers will work just fine with the common .mp3 extension. This means that, at least for now, you should create two versions of the audio. I recommend that you use a quick and simple online tool, called Media.io, to convert your mp3 over to the ogg format.

When Safari loads the page, it won’t recognize that .ogg format, and will skip it and move on to the mp3 version, accordingly. Please note that IE, per usual, doesn’t support this, and Opera 10 and lower can only work with .wav files.

Loading Audio with jQuery

// Slightly modified from video version.
$(document).ready(function() {
    // Create an audio element, and set it to autoplay,
   // and show the player when the page loads.
    var audio = $('', {
      autoPlay : 'autoplay',
      controls : 'controls'
    });

    // Call our addSource function, and pass in the audio element
    // and the path(s) to your audio.
    addSource(audio, 'audioFile.ogg');
    addSource(audio, 'audioFile.mp3');

    // When some event is fired...
    $('a').click(function() {
     // Add the audio + source elements to the page.
      audio.appendTo('body');
      // Fadeout the anchor tag to keep the user from clicking it again.
      $(this).fadeOut('slow');
      return false;
    });

   // Adds a source element, and appends it to the audio element, represented
   // by elem.
    function addSource(elem, path) {
      $('').attr('src', path).appendTo(elem);
    }

});

Please note that we can go much, much further with this, including how to stop the audio, change the volume, etc. This quick three minute tip is just to whet your appetite. If you’d like to delve deeper, let us know and I’ll schedule a full thirty-minute tutorial on the topic!

To help you bid more accurately, the buyer was interviewed about the requirements for this project. Below are their answers.
Project Type: What kind of work do you need done?
Software related (Includes desktop applications and internet websites)
Project Parts: What do you want the seller to do on this project?

Requirements: The seller will analyze the problem and propose a software-based solution to the problem.
Programming: The programmer will take the requirements and translate them into the language of the computer (and test it).
User installation: The installer will move the software from the place it was created (which is called the development or QC environment) to where you will use it (which is called the production environment). The installer then tests the software to make sure that the installation was done properly and completely.
Req. Doc. Type: What kind of documentation do you want for this project?
Formal documentation – After talking back and forth, the seller creates a formal document and/or prototype, as follows:

* Prototype: The analyst will create a non-working mockup of all pages/screens in the final software. Creating a prototype makes it easier for the user to visualize the final software, and reduces misunderstandings.

Program Type: What kind of software should the seller create (and/or install)?

* An internet web-site: This software runs on a web server and users will access it using their internet browser.

Internet web-site info

Server Hosting Environment: What is your server hosting environment?
I have a server at a 3rd party hosting company.
The name of the hosting company is: ASO
The server’s shared/dedicated status is: Shared with other people.

Component Compatibility Protection:
Sometimes a programmer may create features on the website that rely on componentswhich work fine on their own server, but won’t work with your 3rd party hosting company’s server. There are many reasons for this including version incompatibility, restricted permissions, etc… We normally requires that the programmer verify in advance that your 3rd party hosting provider will support the components. If they do not, then they are responsible for any incompatibilities, rather than you. Do you want this protection on your project?
No, I will be responsible for any components of the final solution that do not work with my hosting company.
Server Hosting Environment: Will the coder develop “live” on your server?
No. The programmer is responsible for creating their own development and/or qc environment.
Physical installation: Who will perform the physical installation?
The programmer will perform the physical installation, and will be given all necessary permissions to do so.
Legal: 1) I require complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done (so that I may modify it in the future).
2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):
2a) Any website server-side deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer’s environment.

3b) No part of the deliverable may contain any copyright restricted 3rd party components (including GPL, GNU, Copyleft, etc.) unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the seller’s Seller Legal Agreement.
Other Requirements:

Modify & Install Drupal Theme

Modify & Install Drupal Theme
We would like to take this basic Drupal theme, http://themegarden.org/drupal6/ and apply to our drupal-based site at www.socialwhitepaper.com.

We would like some modifications made to the theme according to the attached mock-up in jpg.

On the jpg mock-up where the menus in he light blue area say ‘view/add comments’ we would need those menu items to be the main menu items from socialwhitepaper.com such as ‘active white paper’ etc.

There is some custom PHP code required to make themes work on this site. When completed, we’d like the ability to replace the customer logo and change the color of the orange stripe and the blue header to whatever colors we want from within the Druupal admin area without having to edit the CSS source files.
