News: Quick Summary Of iPad HD Announcement Event

As expected today Apple announced the release of the latest version of the iPad dubbed the iPad HD (nope – not the iPad 3) with the most touted feature being a high res display.

Here is a summary of what’s different the iPad HD and the iPad 2

– A 2048×1536 display
– A faster processor chip known as the A5X
– A faster quad-core graphics processor (claimed 4x faster than Tegra 3)
– World Ready 3G, and a 4G LTE option
– Longer battery life

So yes – this does mean you will likely want to update any iPad apps for the new display as quickly as possible (yesterday I mentioned a design template for just that).

What’s interesting is that Apple will keep selling the iPad 2 – and not just the base model.

Apple TV also received an upgrade with the major differences being a new user interface with more built in apps, and support for 1080p.

The release date for the iPad HD and the new Apple TV is March 16th.

Along with the iPad HD and Apple TV announcements Apple has also officially released the iOS 5.1.
