Previously I mentioned the objective-c based app review prompt manager Appirater, and more recently UAAppReviewManager.
Here’s a new app review management library submitted Matt Coneybeare, based on UAAppReviewManager, enhanced with new features, and built completely in Swift called Armchair.
Some of the features of Armchair include:
– Very easy setup (only 2 lines of code required)
– Keeps track of rating prompts on multiple devices (so users of the same app on a different device don’t get annoyed with too much prompting)
– Configurable at runtime
– Localization for dozens of languages
Asking for ratings is a powerful way to increase an app’s exposure, and Matt asked me to mention what he considers the golden rule when using a library like Armchair:
“Don’t be a dick.”
Seriously. It is easy to piss off your customers by not really considering how the prompting popup interrupts their flow. This was widely discussed in early 2014 by many well-known tech bloggers ad caused a big hooplah in the community.
We think that having an app review prompt is fine, but only when presented at the right time, and only when you don’t ask too frequently. The criteria for the smart display of a prompt varies for each app, but consider adding one at the end of a positive user workflow, rather than the beginning.
Tweak the variables so that you don’t annoy your customers, and you will enjoy the maximum benefit from your app review prompting.
You can find Armchair on Github here.
A great library for managing your app review prompting.
