How To Automatically Place Version Identification Within An App Icon

It can be difficult to track which build you have on a device or in the simulator and here’s a simple solution for that – this can be especially annoying if you’re working with multiple devices and testers.

Krzysztof Zablocki has come up with a nice little guide for doing that inspired by a presentation by Evan Doll of Flipboard.

This guide will show you how you can automatically set it up so that the build info for your app shows up within the app icon automatically so everyone will immediately know which version they’re using.

Here’s an image showing a Springboard icon with the embedded build number from the guide:

You can find the guide over on Kryzsztof’s site here.

You’ll need to install ImageMagick and Ghostscript to get things working (using HomeBrew is the easiest way).  Full instructions in the guide.
