Create Winning Resumes with ResumeBaking

Those who have searched for a job will know how tough it is to get the right one, if you can find one at all. You will have to be able to market yourself to the prospective employer, and customizing your skills and appealing to different corporate environments can be grueling at best. But even before you can get a face time with the bossman, there is a major hurdle you will have to get across – creating a resume.

Resumes get you a seat at the table, and are your first chance to make an impression on a potential employer (or at least their HR department). It isn’t a breeze to create a decent looking one, though, let alone an impressive one. There will always be a vital detail that has gone missing or hasn’t been highlighted prominently, and it’s so easy for your resume to look like just another plain vanilla piece of paper.

Resumebaking is a web app that promises to create you a winning resume. It’s time to check that claim for ourselves. Ready to brush up your resume? Follow along and see if Resumebaking can simplify the task.

Getting Started

Dashboard

Dashboard

After a true one-click sign up process, I landed on a minimalistic dashboard. There aren’t any distractions in the form of helpful tutorials or a how to video. Just hit the Bake Resume button you are all set to create the perfect resume, no help needed.

Adding Contact Information

Adding Contact Information

Adding your personal and residential information is the first step. Just enter the required details in the respective fields. This is one of the most important part of the resume, so make sure you add both your permanent and temporary addresses if you have one. Save the sections when they are complete just to be on the safe side. If you need to edit the entire section, use the reset option and start all over again.

Adding Work Experience

Adding Work Experience

After adding a short statement about the objectives in your professional life , you’ll come to another vital section – work experience. In this section of the app, add all relevant details about your previous employment starting with the most recent experience, including dates of employment, titles of the positions held, and the dates in which you held the position. If you plan to add multiple positions, use the Add another experience option to do so.

Creating a Custom Section

Adding a Custom Section

Adding details in the rest of the sections happen the same way, so you should be able to figure it out automatically. However, not all resumes are the same, and some items might need a unique section to show some special part about your life experiences, skills, or contact info. If you need to add extra info beyond the defaults, just drag and drop the Custom Section from the right column.

Editing a Custom Section

Editing a Custom Section

You can edit the title and add details in the body of the section. However, you cannot add any fields to the custom section. In the same vein, if you don’t require a section that is displayed in the default resume template, just delete it and it will be moved to the right column. You can drag and drop it later if need be.

Other Features

Once you create the resume, it can be downloaded in all popular formats – pdf, doc and txt. As a perk, you get a link to the online format of the resume and you can share it with your friends or prospective employers. From the link people can view, download, or mail the resume to others. Going along with current trends, links to share the resume in Twitter and Facebook are also available.

A Sample Resume

A Sample Resume

From the dashboard, you can track the exact number of times the resume has been viewed, mailed or downloaded. This is a brilliant feature, as you can know the response to your resume, albeit indirectly. Best of all, Resumebaking allows you to create multiple resumes for free as well. This way, you could customize your resume, and try out several varieties to see how each one performs. After all, if you’d do an A/B test on a site you’re designing, why not do it with your resume, too?

Final Thoughts

I should congratulate the Resumebaking team for designing a gorgeous website that infuses a sense of confidence in users. Theirs is by far the best designed resume builder I have come across, and with so many shady, money grabbing websites out there with similar claims, this is a major score for the dev team.

The app isn’t particularly mind blowing. It does not add anything special to your resume and just displays what you have entered in a presentable format. But, the concept of presentable format is the key. Have you ever tried tackling all the margins, formatting, bullets, fonts etc. while building a resume? I have, and is not something I would want to do again. With Resumebaking, you can focus on your skills and experience, and let them worry about the formatting. Just like invoicing apps and other tools that create relatively simple documents, sometimes it’s easier to have a tool that automates the formatting process.

Resumebaking is the perfect solution job seekers are looking for, provided you have content with special language (for objective, goals section etc.) ready beforehand. If you don’t, you might want to sit down first and think through exactly what you want from a resume.
