Prime Minister David Cameron has arrived in Cornwall to visit communities hit by flooding.
Mr Cameron arrived in Mevagissey at about 1000 GMT to meet those made homeless by Wednesday’s floods.
He is also due to visit residents in Pentewan, near St Austell, which was one of the worst-affected areas.
The Met Office has said that there is a risk the South West could have up to 40mm of rainfall this afternoon.
Prince Charles and business leaders are also due to visit Lostwithial and St Blazey in Cornwall to see what they can do to help.
St Blazey, St Austell, Mevagissey and Lostwithiel were the worst-hit areas.
People became trapped in their cars and homes by the floodwaters, which reached up to 6ft (2m) deep in places.
Cornwall Council said early indications suggested about 230 homes and about 400 businesses were affected, but that it was “too early” to say how much the clean-up operation would cost.
There were no reports of serious injuries but residents were evacuated and schools around the county were closed.
The county’s transport network was also badly disrupted and the Newquay to Par train service remains closed with National Rail providing a bus replacement service.
