What You’ll Be Creating

Looking for a gaming clan logo maker? Need a gaming clan logo for your competitive group or guild? Well, in this tutorial, we’ll look at how to make a clan logo without Photoshop, right from the comfort of your browser, no software required. It’s simple, easy, and you can get started right now.

clan logo maker

For this tutorial, we’re going to use Placeit—an awesome online tool where you can create and design all kinds of mockups, logos, and more within your browser.

There’s a big collection of cool logos for clans, created with gaming in mind, but they’re all customizable too—change up the text, the font, the colors, and even the imagery. Create and customize the perfect logo for your clan, and then download it as a high-resolution image, perfect for any project—from T-shirts to video overlays.

Placeit has an entire section for gaming—gaming logos, Twitch banners, avatars, and a lot more! The best part is, it’s free to dig in and start customizing designs, right now.

Want to see for yourself? Follow along with this tutorial about how to make a good clan logo on our Envato Tuts+ YouTube channel:

1. How to Use a Gaming Clan Logo Maker

Step 1

Stop wondering how to make your own gaming logo and start by navigating to the Logo portion of Placeit. You can do this by either going to the Logos or Gaming sections of the site.

If you think you might like to look at other genres or industries for your logo design, feel free to check out the general Logos section. Otherwise, let’s head right over to Gaming.

In these sections, make sure to select the appropriate category, such as Gaming Teams or Logos, depending on which starting point you choose.

PlaceIt

Step 2

Next, browse through the selection of premade clan logo template designs. If something catches your eye, jump right in—you can customize the content. Think of this as your starting point, rather than your final design.

In this tutorial about how to make a clan logo without Photoshop, we’ll work with this one, so follow that link if you’d like to work along with me.

Gaming Clan Logo Maker

Step 3

And here we are, ready to jump right in and customize our logo using the gaming clan maker. Before we do so, make sure to note the save and favorite buttons, on the right-hand side of your browser’s window.

It’s free to sign up for Placeit—and you’ll need an account to save your drafts.

2. How to Create a Gaming Clan Logo Using a Gaming Clan Logo Maker

Step 1

Now, let’s dig right into how to make a good clan logo in the clan emblem maker!

On the left-hand side, we can make adjustments to our text. For example, we can change what the text says, the font itself, and the color of the text.

Try out different fonts and colors if you want to create a gaming clan logo that’s unique! Your logo will update in the browser as you make changes.

gaming clan logo

Step 2

Speaking of color, we can also change the colors within the logo itself. In this example design, we have three colors: a main color, an accent, and the background color. Experiment with the color scheme, and Placeit will update the colors in the logo, right in your browser. Cool, right?

Note that you can also choose a transparent background. This is really handy if you plan to make things like stickers or use the logo in your Twitch overlay.

Transparent Logo Maker

Step 3

Then, we can also change up the imagery—and this is more than changing the image itself. We can also tweak the image’s colors.

Note that some images have a small play icon preview on them. This indicates that this image also has a unique animation. So, if you know you want an animated logo, you might want to keep an eye out for this option. The other images use a more standard animation.

However, if you prefer one of the static images, don’t worry—we can still use it in an animation too, right here in Placeit. You have plenty of options.

Here’s our sample logo with a new image, adjusted color scheme, and some adjusted text. Remember, you can freely adjust all of these attributes as much as you want, until you come up with the perfect logo.

Gaming Logo Design Maker

Step 4

Happy with your logo in the gaming clan maker? Remember, you can save your draft, if you’re not sure yet.

However, if you’re ready to download, it’s as simple as clicking Download, at the top of the screen. You’ll be presented with your download options—a single low fee, or a subscription that allows you to create and download as much as you like.

When creating cool clan logos, the subscription is super price effective (and often lower than a single purchase) especially if you know you’d like to download and create variants of your logo.

3. How to Create an Animated Gaming Clan Logo

Step 1

So you can make some pretty cool clan logos on Placeit—but there’s even more to see. Wondering how to make your own gaming logo with a different twist? You can also make animated gaming clan logos, perfect for video introductions, highlight videos, and so much more. If you’re curious about how to create a gaming clan logo that animates, stay tuned.

Many of the static logos also have an animated variant, just like this one we’ve been working on.

gaming clan logo maker

Step 2

Just like when we were working with static imagery, it’s simple to start customizing our animated logo. For example, let’s change up the imagery. There’s plenty to choose from here, and it’s all available for commercial use.

Again, just as we did earlier, simply browse the clan emblem maker and select any image you would like to preview.

gaming clan logo

Step 3

After you choose a new image, Placeit will automatically update your video preview for you. Be patient with this—it might need a moment’s wait. Then, go ahead and preview your animation.

make a clan logo

Step 4

But let’s say you made a static logo that you really fell in love with—or you already have a logo design you love. No problem, we can upload your logo—either the static one you made on Placeit or an image logo from elsewhere—and add it to our animation too!

How? Well, we can also add additional slides to our animations here. Let’s test this out.

Click where it says Add Slide to add more video content to your animated logo.

Step 5

Next, choose a video template to work with. For this example, let’s try out this animated introduction, highlighted below. It already has a place ready for us to upload our static image logo.

Online Video Maker

Step 6

Once you’ve selected it, click where it says Upload Image to go ahead and upload a static image. It’ll add your image to the animated template. It’s really that simple!

clan logo template

Step 7

I’m going to test this out with the original, static image logo concept we created and downloaded earlier. Placeit allows you to crop and adjust your image before it imports it into the animation.

When you’re happy with how your upload looks, just click Crop.

cool logos for clans

Step 8

And now the placeholder in the animation will be replaced with our upload. Simple, right? Just click on Preview Video to check out what your work looks like.

clan logo maker

Step 9

We can continue to push this further with even more slides. For example, we could try out this animated background with animated text. We could use it to describe the match, list the players, and give other important information about the game at hand.

Just like our logo, we can change the text, the colors, the fonts, and more!

how to make a clan logo

Step 10

You can preview your adjustments individually, in each slide, or you can watch them all together, as one finished video.

To do so, mouse over the video preview and click on the triangle to display more options. Choose either Single Slide or All Slides, depending on the preview you’d like to see.

gaming clan logo maker

Step 11

You can also rearrange and delete your slides.

Click and drag on a slide to rearrange it in your timeline, shown at the bottom of your screen. So, for example, we could slide the first slide to the end, if we wanted to.

good clan logos

Step 12

To delete a slide, simply mouse over the slide and then select Delete. It’s that simple!

You can also duplicate slides from the menu that appears here, if you’d like to.

gaming clan logo maker

Step 13

Remember, you can also save drafts of your work. This gets extra important to note when you’re working with video. Click the icon in the right-hand corner of the screen, or add the template you’re customizing to your favorites, so you can work with it again later, too.

You’ll need a free Placeit account to save your work.

 clan logo design

Step 14

Once you’re happy with your video, it’s as simple as clicking Download. Your video will need to process, and you’ll need to choose your purchase options. Then, your video creation is all yours—ready to use for personal, professional, and commercial use.

Not sure if your video is just right? Grab a free, watermarked low-res version of your video if you need to test it out first.

A Look at Graphic Trends That Define the 70s (Retro Fonts, Text Effects, and More!)

Let’s take a trip back in time! In this article, we’ll explore the groovy and psychedelic decade by looking at some iconic vintage 70s fonts!

70s retro effects
70s Retro Effects

You can follow along with us over on our Envato Tuts+ YouTube channel, where you can also find more great design video tutorials and essays.

The 1970s were filled with many social movements and cultural trends that greatly influenced graphic design. People wanted to express themselves as extravagantly as possible through music, fashion, and art. The hippy, disco, and punk movements were just a few of the trends that defined this iconic decade and made an impact in the visual world.

Fonts were a big part of this decade as designers were moving from the International Typographic Style that reigned in the 50s and part of the 60s. Hand-drawn retro fonts in the 70s were flowy and freeform. There was a big boom of 70s lettering fonts for advertising. Disco fonts were inspired by iconic neon lights.

New ways of typesetting were introduced, like the Letraset and the Visual Graphics PhotoTypositor. These two techniques allowed for an easier and more economical way to transfer type. Designers had more freedom to experiment with spacing and scaling.

Letraset introduced the dry transfer technique and could hold more detail. Many of the most recognizable fonts from the 1970s came from Letraset designer Colin Brignall: Aachen Bold, Italia, Octopuss, Superstar, and many more.

The Visual Graphics PhotoTypositor used large negative film strips that contained characters next to each other. The user simply lined up the character they wanted to be printed with a lens, and it was later projected onto photographic paper. This allowed for custom adjustments to the spacing of the characters. The unit also had different distortion lenses that made words take on different shapes.

Printing moved from letterpress to offset as darkrooms were becoming more and more sophisticated. It was normal to use film exposures to modify artworks and create chokes and spreads for trapping. Many devices were invented to alter type optically. For instance, one could take a solid typeface and create outlines, inlines, and interesting perspectives.

Characteristics

The 70s were characterized by multiple social movements and trends. One thing was for sure, the visuals were pushed to extremes—some might say tasteless, and some might say tasteful. Let’s take a look at a few characteristics:

  • Printing allowed for the use of photography, and advertisers wanted to go all out and use as much color as possible.
  • Colorful illustrations became almost essential in every piece of design. We can see some Art Nouveau appear with the intricate psychedelic style
  • Designers had a lot more control when it came to typesetting. Experimentations with spacing and distorted type took off very quickly. Groovy fonts included swashes, another reference to Art Nouveau. These organic shapes were added at the end of capital letters and ball terminals.
  • Graphic design became a weapon of protest. Many political protest groups made ways to draw type designs by hand, resulting in some really groovy 70s fonts.
  • The most iconic element in this decade was type design. Groovy music inspired 70s bubble fonts. Thick and curvy hand-drawn scripts carried on from the 60s. 70s disco fonts were inspired by neon lights. Punk rock inspired a revolution with collaged characters and distorted sans serifs.
  • The gay pride movement introduced its iconic flag in the late 70s. This inspired designers to use many different colors in their design because it represented a positive and happy vibe.

70s Swashes

Swashes were ubiquitous in the vintage 70s fonts. A swash is a typographical flourish that exaggerated serifs and terminals on a character. Swashes were revived in the 70s as a tribute to Art Nouveau, the movement that inspired flourishes in every aspect of the design world.

Periwinkle

This 70s groovy font is a revival of the charm of the 60s and 70s. The curly ends and rounded edges take us back to our childhood. Periwinkle comes with a full set of alternate swashes for capitals and a few for lowercase characters.

Swashington

This serif font mixed with evocative swashes and ligatures will take you right back to the 70s style. This font has an extensive library of characters and options to experiment with. With over 270 discretionary ligatures, you’ll be sure to find something that works!

70s Groovy Fonts

Illustration made way for hand-drawn groovy fonts in the 70s. Psychedelic and funky 70s style fonts weren’t properly portrayed with your typical serif and sans serif, so designers started breaking the mold. They also had that ‘look at me’ quality that set them apart from normal ad campaigns.

Flowy, smooth, bubble-like shapes were almost a direct response to the International Typographic Style of the 50s. The 70s were also exuberant and free, and hand-drawn fonts really show these qualities.

Califunkia

This heavy, cartoonish 70s funky font is based on hand-lettered advertisements. The font includes multiple ligature options for the characters. The fun part of ligatures is mixing and matching characters—there’s always more than one perfect match!

This fun 70s bubble font is perfect for branding. The unique set of characters comes in two variants: filled and outlined. We know outlines were a big boom in the 70s style font.

Far Out

Far Out is a groovy 70s font that features round corners on all the characters. The set is inspired by the Flower Children of the 60s and 70s. A cool add-on? 22 hand-drawn graphics to complete your designs!

Casual 70s Script Fonts

Casual 70s script fonts were less formal fonts used in advertising throughout the 60s and 70s. Much of the influence also came from the wellness movement and the need to use appropriate fonts that weren’t flowy and free.

Funkies

Inspired by disco, this funky 70s font is perfect for posters and album covers. It’s bold, fun, and flowy, just like the iconic decade, and it’s perfect for that fun party you’ve been meaning to throw! Retro fonts in the 70s are hard to nail, but this one is an exception: well designed, with many stylistic alternates, swashes, and ligatures for you to choose from!

Groovy

Drop shadows made the 70s groovy fonts stand out by giving them an extra layer to pop. This groovy 70s font includes an extra extruded font version to create that extruded/drop shadow effect. It’ll save you lots of time. The font is extensive: 593 glyphs, with 21 options for each character. That’s variety!

Retrofunk Script

This 70s lettering font is inspired by retro and vintage advertising of the 70s. This 70s script font has a square ending to all the characters, giving it an even more casual vibe. The font includes an extruded version, so you can make your text pop off the background!

Punk Rock

The Xerox machine exploded in popularity in the 70s, making it easier to copy posters and flyers. Punk rock took off as a social movement against the political happenings of the decade. Revolutionary graphics with an explosive combination of text highlight the fact that there were no limits for artists. Punk rock graphics were loud and abrasive—similar to the tunes of the decade.

Pop Punk Flyer

This pop punk flyer has a photocopied quality that takes you right back to the 70s. The Dada-style collage and xeroxed quality were staples in the punk rock scene of the decade. This poster includes a stylized 70s rock font that completes the highly saturated image.

What You’ll Need

To complete this project, you will need the following resources:

Find more resources on Envato Elements!

1. How to Create a Sakura Petal Brush in Photoshop

Step 1

First, open up a photo containing a cherry blossom petal, and extract the petal using your preferred method.

The Object Selection Tool worked great for me!

extract flower petal

Step 2

Next, Control-Click the cherry blossom, or its layer mask if you have one, to make an exact selection.

Hit the Crop tool to crop the canvas down to size.

crop image

Step 3

Create a white Color Fill layer below the petal.

Turn the petal grayscale with a black and white Gradient Map adjustment layer, checking the Reverse box in the Gradient Map’s Properties panel.

Right-click > Flatten Image and then go to Edit > Define Brush Preset.

Don’t worry about naming your brush just yet!

invert image to black

2. How to Set Brush Settings in Photoshop

Step 1

Now, let’s fiddle with our brush’s settings, starting with setting the Spacing to 1000%.

Next, let’s tweak our Shape Dynamics with a Size Jitter of 50%, Angle Jitter of 100%, and a Roundness Jitter of 100%.

shape dynamics

Step 2

Then for our Scattering, let’s do a Scatter of 1000%.

The Scattering will change as you paint, so feel free to lower it as needed!

You can also increase the Count to or 3 to paint more than one petal at a time.

scattering

Step 3

Now, let’s set our Color Dynamics to Foreground/Background Jitter: 40%, Hue Jitter: 2%, Saturation Jitter: 2%, and Brightness Jitter: 4%.

You can also turn Color Dynamics and off as needed while you paint!

Save these settings and name your new brush by clicking the square icon in the bottom-right corner of the Brush Settings panel.

color dynamics

3. How to Create Sakura Petals Falling in Photoshop

Step 1

Finally, let’s put our new petal brush to good use and place our sakura petals falling! Open up your image, like this Woman Next to Sakura Tree that I’ll be playing with, and create a new layer, calling it “Medium Petals”!

Let’s select a color from the lightest point of the flower for our foreground color, and then from a darker point for our background color, using the Eye Dropper tool.

Set the Size of your brush so that the largest petal you paint will only be as big as the largest petal that’s in focus in your photo.

Now, click and drag your brush across the image!

Add a very slight Gaussian Blur if the petals are too sharp compared to the rest of the image.

paint sakura petals falling

Step 2

Next, let’s create some background petals by lowering the size of our brush slightly, creating a new layer named “background” and then painting all over.

Don’t be afraid to create and paint on multiple different layers!

Erase any smaller petals that overlap on top of your model.

If your subject’s background is heavily out of focus like mine, then add a Gaussian Blur, so that the petals appear out of focus as well!

Finally, I like to lower the background petals’ Opacity down to 70%.

paint background sakura petals falling

Step 3

Finish things up by creating two new layers over all your other petal layers and the subject. Name these layers “Large” and “Extra Large.”

And, you guessed it, paint large and extra-large petals on both of these layers! These petals will be our foreground petals and will help give any image a quick dose of depth.

Blur both layers using Filter > Blur Gallery > Field Blur.

Don’t be shy with the blur! The exact number will depend on the size of your image.
