Thank you for being here
Pixwall is a plugin for WordPress based on a project called Diapo, a jQuery slideshow developed by me, Manuel Masia (or Pixedelic), but improved since the original version. Pixwall is used to create animated slideshows with particular effects, and you can use it also for fullscreen background slideshows.
Some warnings
Especially for the fullscreen slideshow, to better display the slideshows you’ll create, maybe you will need to adjust a little the styles of your theme (in particular z-index and margins). Pixwall provides a custom panel to write your personal CSS code, but, of course, this requires a little knowledge about CSS and HTML .
Many effects require more resources. So if you use many effects, or you use a high number of rows and columns, the slideshow could be jerky. So try to select the best option for your slideshow. For instance: if a slideshow contains videos, captions, html elements it’s better to use simple transition effect.
Before buying Pixwall please test it, you can also enter its administration panel. And if you have some questions before purchasing it post a comment on the wall.
The administration panel
Pixwall is distributed with a huge administration panel, and you can have a preview of it without buying the plugin, by entering the administration from there: http://www.pixedelic.com/plugins/pixwall/wp-login.php (enter with user: pix_test, password: pix_test). By using the preview mode you can’t do everything, you can’t add slides or slideshows, you can’t delete them, but you can change the order of the slides, the custom CSS , you can change the effects or the skins of the slideshows already used. And you can see the result in the front end:
HTML5 validated
Pixwall is HTML5 validated, and it also uses data- attributes, html5 videos (for mobile devices only), canvas. So you can’t validated it with other document type declarations… sorry. However, check it: click here
Features
Once you created a slideshow you can put it into a page or post by using a simple button of text-editor.
You can display more than one slideshow on a page (of course you must pay attention to the size of the files and to the number of the effects).
You can display a slideshow also as a fullscreen background, with the same transition effects, but with some limitations and precautions (read the documentation for more details).
Pixwall supports externally hosted videos (I recommend YouTube and Vimeo) and self hosted videos. In this case it uses a free version of FlowPlayer for desktop devices, and VideoJs, as HTML5 video player for mobile devices.
Pixwall uses ColorBox to enlarge the image, and TimThumb to resize the images on the fly, but if you want you can disable both.
Pixwall is compatible with WordPress 3.0+ and jQuery 1.4+.
Different skins are available (light, dark, squared and rounded) and you can display the thumbnails in many positions (top, left, right, bottom or display them on mouse over).
Pixwall uses a customized version of jQuery.mobile. You can swipe a touchscreen device to navigate the slides and decide to use different effects for mobile devices.
You can display captions and also HTML elements.
If your theme has a particular layout and you want to adapt it to the plugin (or viceversa) you can use the custom style panel: the CSS code you type there is written in the database, so you won’t lose it after an upgrade.
Many possibilities of customizations, colors, sizes, positions… please have a look to the admin panel
