Wisdom plugin – What is it about?
Wisdom is a new WordPress plugin aimed at plugin authors and developers. It allows you to track and analyse who is using your plugin, what options they enable, and why they deactivate. It works by adding a small code snippet to your plugin then installing the main Wisdom plugin on your site. As soon as someone activates your plugin (and opts in to tracking) you’ll start receiving data.
The data you receive includes server and WordPress environments, information on theme and other plugins, and in-depth information about your plugin, including data about which plugin settings are being used and which are not. You also have the option to request site admins’ email addresses – allowing you to build relationships with your users and market your products more effectively.
Wisdom is fully compliant with the WordPress plugin directory guidelines on phoning home and requires user permission to start gathering data. If your plugin is not hosted on the directory, e.g. on Code Canyon or your own site, you can enable Wisdom by default.
Wisdom is the only WordPress plugin that allows developers to gain real insight into how their plugins are being used.
