I’ve mentioned a number of components for enhancing and creating custom tab bars, most recently a component allowing you to animate items on the tab bar.
Here’s an open source library called FancyTabBar that allows you to create pop-out menus designed as a replacement for the standard tab bar from Marvelapp.
FancyTabBar uses the UIDynamic API to give the menu a nice pop when opened, and supports up to 5 iconized selections with convenient callbacks to indicate which option has been selected.
Included is an example showing how FancyTabBar running with 4 selections.
