The race to 50 billion is on.
Just about a week after Apple announced that the App Store had crossed 45 billion downloads, Apple has decided it’s high time to launch an official countdown towards the 50 billionth downloaded app.
The lucky winner will receive a $10,000 gift card redeemable on the App Store. Apple has run similar app download countdowns in the past, but this year it has decided to share the wealth a bit more. In addition to the aforementioned grand prize winner, Apple will be doling out $500 App Store gift cards to customers who download the next 50 apps once the 50 billion mark has been reached.
The current tally is about 49.2 billion downloads. Just 800 million more to go!
