E-mail marketing can be very effective for alerting users about updates, and new apps that is somewhat underutilized because it can be somewhat difficult to get users to join the list.
Here’s a component submitted by Raymond Law that makes it very easy to set up a mailing list within your app called DevNewsletter.
Working with the MailChimp service DevNewsLetter provides a customizable e-mail opt-in view into your apps, if you like you can simply provide a MailChimp API Key and List ID in a plist file and call the control as is.
Here are some images from the readme showing versions of the basic and customized interfaces:
You can find the DevNewsletter compont on the homepage here.
You’ll need to sign-up with MailChimp for your mailing list – the good news is they have an “always free” level for storing 2,000 e-mail addresses, and sending 12,000 e-mails per month.
A nice simple way to add an e-mail opt-in form into an app.
