iOS push notifications are a topic that have been covered several times in the past including a beginners ios push notification tutorial, and the open source ApnsPHP push notification provider.
Some time ago I came across a Python based provider for sending push notifications – it had not been updated in some time, but the developer has since updated fixing bugs, and bring the server up to date.
This solution uses the open source Twisted server with support for multiple applications and native Pyhon and Ruby APIs.
The project is known as Pyapns from Samuel Sutch.
