News: Cocos2D With New iPad Retina Display Support and Cocos2d v2 RC Released

The new iPad (dubbed by most of the media as the iPad 3 or iPad HD)  has brought about a bug within older versions of Cocos2D iOS game engine that can lead to games not working completely.

This led to several hacks being available to fix the problem, and today the Cocos2D team released an updated version of Cocos2D that provides full support for the iPad 3 retina display.

While the new version is dubbed a beta (v1.1 Beta 2) it’s a must update if you want your games to work on the iPad 3.

Some other significant updates included with new version of Cocos2D are a new animation system, and a much improved touch dispatcher.

You can read more about this update on the Cocos2D website here, and you can find the full changelog on Github here.

Cocos2D v2.0 RC released

In other Cocos2D related news (and much bigger news for anyone working with Cocos2D v2) a release candidate has been placed up for download on the Cocos2D website and find the changelog on Github here.

If you’ve been working with Cocos2D v2 at all then you are probably aware that there have been quite a few syntax not just from v1, but during development of the pre-release versions.  Hopefully with the release candidate version now being out we can hope that the syntax doesn’t have many more changes.

There is also a  fix for the iPad retina display including in the release candidate.

I’ve also created a Cocos2D Tutorial and Example page where I am adding Cocos2D related resources.
