Unreal Engine 3 (finally) coming to the Mac

If you thought the Mac and iOS were already running Unreal Engine 3, you aren’t wrong: Epic has been using the legendary gaming engine on Apple products for a while now. Despite promising support, the company hasn’t actually released it out to developers — until now. The latest update for the Unreal Engine SDK in fact does finally include Mac support, and Epic says that all UDK games can now run natively on the Mac.

There are still a few hurdles to jump — games still have to be ported over by the various companies using the engine, and for many, that extra time and effort might not be worth it (though we’d argue that the Mac audience is growing all the time, and lack of a game market on Mac isn’t so much a lack of Mac gamers as it is just a lack of games). But for developers using Unreal who are ready to release on Mac, this is certainly good news. We gamers should see these games filtering out onto the platform in due time.
