International Artist Feature: Egypt

Welcome back to our International Artist Series.

Next, we turn to Egypt,
featuring six artists who create phenomenal work, from cool 3D animations to graphic designs and more! I asked each artist how
their
country and
culture inspired their work, and they delivered fantastic answers.

Mohamed Chahin

Mohamed is an illustrator and animator based in Alexandria, Egypt. His work features brilliant 3D renders with charming animations.

Well, what I like about Egypt is the people. You won’t believe how the stories of the people around you can affect your energy and art. I don’t think I’ve
met anyone here with a story not worth hearing. All of them are really
beautiful in their own unique way.

Vintage Living Room

This has made me work on myself so hard. Due to the lack of appreciation of young talents,
sometimes people leave the creative industry altogether and I
hate when I see that. But hey, things turned out fine for me.

Broken

The art community here is getting better. We help push people forward and give constant feedback if needed.
As long as everyone is developing their
skills and learning new stuff, I think it’ll be an awesome presence in a few years.

Spirited Away

I love many things about living here in Egypt. The best thing is the people. Egyptians
are really kind and helpful. When you need them you’ll find that a lot of
them tell you, “I’m here to help.”

Political Illustrations – War Effects

I’ve had to learn
from pro artists from around the world, and all cultures and art styles. My
culture helps me to make studies of ancient cities. We have statues and buildings that are great for live sketches.

Many of Egypt’s artists are now digital artists but there are also oil painters, sculptors and abstract artists. It’s a huge and
diverse community.

Living Room Interior Design

This is my home. I was born here and all my friends are here. I love that nearly everything is open all of the time, which makes life so much easier. I can
buy my groceries at midnight if I need to, which takes away a lot of the stress of city
living. It’s one of those cities that never sleeps.

Egypt merges many cultures together. For example, there is a Western-style neighborhood
called “New Egypt,” and another neighborhood called “Old Egypt.”

In
New Egypt I always feel like I’m in Europe whereas in Old Egypt I feel like I’m in the Islamic era. Then, only a few blocks away are the great pharaohs of
Egypt.

The Egyptian community has all kinds of art. Exhibitions for design started almost
15-20 years ago in Egypt and now they’ve become a huge part of the art
community in Egypt.

We have some of the most creative designers in the industry. Most of the
organizations, galleries, workshop spaces, and exhibition venues are
located in downtown Cairo.

The Story of a Girl

One of the things I love most about my country is the special and unique Arabian style. It’s all over Egypt, and the ancient and historical places have this gleaming character that speaks for itself. It’s a style known all over
the world.

The general Arabian style has affected my work and even my
personality. From the places in the country to the popular public markets, there is plenty of artistic creation happening. It has all affected my artistic vision and the colors in my work.

I Lost My Dragon

There’s nothing more important than the relationship
between an artist and their surroundings. All artists use references from nature but learning how to express nature in a different way can help differentiate you as an artist.

Beyond Human

I love the weather, the various monuments and landscapes, the location, culture, and the kindness of the people here in Egypt.

Being around all these monuments makes an artist familiar with
other cultures from all around the globe. So for me, being in the middle of the
world makes it easier to approach art without being alienated from
either western or eastern art styles.

Rowida Mohamed Abd ElRazek

Rowida is a designer based in Alexandria, Egypt. Her work features delightful typography and logo designs inspired by her culture.

Check out her work below, and see more in her portfolio.

Logos and Typography

I
am from southern Egypt (Aswan) and this has had a high impact
on me because the origin of the Aswan arts in terms of colors and
drawings really made me love painting. Soon, it turned into a love of
graphic design as I developed a greater interest in the Nubian art.

I want all people to know Nubian art and its greatness. I now specialize in trademarks and typography, and I find great pleasure in the
work I do. I find that this is my own world where I can really find myself.

Many thanks to the artists who took time to answer my questions
and share a bit about themselves and how their country and/or culture
has affected their work. You can check out more of their work in the
