Photoshop in 60 Seconds: 4 Unique Brush Ideas
Photoshop Brushes allow you to create magical digital worlds full of wonder. But did you know that you could also make your own custom brushes using a variety of design assets? In this quick video, I’ll show you four unique brush ideas using an assortment of assets from GraphicRiver.
Try this lesson yourself, using the following resources from this tutorial:
- 12 The X Grunge Textures VOL 1
- Snowflake Vector Icons
- Yellow Flower Isolated Object
- Transsiberian Font
And feel free to download the Winter Stock from Pixabay to recreate the snowy scene from the video.
Create Four Custom Brushes in Adobe Photoshop
For this lesson, we’ll be creating brushes using icon sets, texture packs, isolated objects, and font glyphs. First, open a grungy texture graphic in Photoshop and use the Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) to make a selection. Erase the edges of the selection with the Eraser Tool (E) before creating a brush by going to Edit > Define Brush Preset.
For the second brush idea, make a Selection of one of the blue snowflake vector icons and turn it into a custom brush. Use it to paint snow flurries onto a winter scene.
Next, use an isolated object like this yellow flower to create your own digital garden. If you need to, adjust the Contrast with Adjustment Layers first to bring out the details of the flower.
Lastly, create a brush to stamp a copyright symbol on your designs using a font. Simply select the font glyph with the Rectangular Marquee Tool (M) and go to Edit > Define Brush Preset. Name your new brush, and you’re finished!
