What You’ll Be Creating

In Advanced Techniques in CorelDRAW, you’ll explore a range of CorelDRAW’s features in a very practical way, by creating a digital still-life scene from scratch.

What You’ll Learn

With the help of Envato Tuts+ instructor Mary Winkler, you’ll learn advanced rendering and vector techniques, including:

  • creating and using custom sprayer brushes
  • using gradient meshes to render shapes and objects
  • using gradients and other interactive tools to render objects
  • using textures and text to add quick details to an illustration

You will primarily use basic shapes to build a digital still-life scene, allowing you to focus more on lighting and shadow and less on drawing. You will learn how to balance your design with a harmonious color palette and play around with composition.

In the end, you’ll have illustrated a still life that’s completely made up, but retains a semi-realistic feel and is a great jumping-off point for advancing your digital illustration skill set.

Here are some free lessons from this course, as a preview of what you can expect:

Creating a Cup

In this lesson you’ll prepare a circle in order to render it into a cup shape and prepare it for its contents. This includes planning out lighting and shading for multiple content possibilities.

Creating a Basic Donut

Learn to create and render a simple torus shape. This lesson goes over choosing the right rendering style for an object, as well as choosing colors for a cake-type donut and making it work with the existing background and objects.

Creating a Pen

In this lesson you’ll learn to draw and render a simple click pen with basic shapes and fountain fills.
