Description of the track:
Osiris is a song about exploring the dichotomies between two very different but interconnected strains of music, 1960s downtempo jazz and broken beat, L.A. beat hip-hop. The goal was to encapsulate the most intriguing aspects of each musical movement, while molding them into a new experience that was equal parts expansive, soulful, off-kilter, and murky.
The song consists of many layered elements, but the base of the sound consists of layered sax lines that I recorded with a late 70s Bundy alto saxophone. An upright bass, grand piano, electric piano, and guitar (with sufficient wah distortion) form the framework of the sound, although very rudimentary electronic sounds, such as saws and squares that have been filtered accent in nuance the work in interesting ways.
Ableton Live was used in the recording and sequencing of the song. Reason was used for several supplementary sounds.
