Advertising on the web isn’t the domain of the biggest players anymore — it’s now the place the rest of us advertise stuff as well. With the web making it easy to let other people know about events, things you want to sell, as well as other ways to advertise whatever it may be, there are a handful of different web apps that can be used for these purposes. You have sites like Evite, Facebook, Craigslist, and more that make it really easy for you to advertise whatever you want, whenever you want. Their purpose is to make it simple for you to get your message out to the world, but the area where they tend to lack is the design of your advertisement. Either you have no control over it or there are no options for you to design your own advertisement to attract more people.
That is why a web app that I am reviewing today caught my attention when I came across their site. I was actually looking for a fun way to advertise our 4th of July BBQ that we are having. I immediately went to Facebook, then I stopped myself, and thought that there had to be a better way to do this. So I was able to put Smore through its paces and found it a lot of fun to use.
Creating Your Flyer
There are a variety of different templates that you can choose from when you are ready to make your first flyer with Smore. They have ones that you can advertise an event, sell something, promote your business, and if none of the templates fit your vision, you can even just create one to your liking. Once you find a template that you like, you can now start to fill in the areas of the flyer to make it your own. For the purpose of this review, I stuck with the “event” template since I wanted to make one for our party.
Choosing a template for your flyer
Smore makes it really easy to fill in each part of the template, and they give you a variety of choices where you can change the font, font color, as well as the the background of your flyer. It is really easy to add images to your flyer by dragging and dropping them into the designated areas. What is nice is that different parts of the template can be moved around and if you don’t want to use part of it, you can just delete it from your flyer.
Editing options for your flyer
Smore also gives you other options to add content to your flyer. Maybe you want to add text, links, or even a video to make it stand out more. There are many different things that you can add to your flyer to really get creative and make it your own.
Adding more content to your flyer
When you are ready to send your flyer, Smore gives you many different options to share it with your friends. You can share it on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google +, as well as Craigslist, which I thought was a nice touch to have, especially if you are selling something. You can even embed your flyer into your website or email it directly to friends. After you have sent it out, Smore gives you an analytics feature to see who has actually viewed your flyer.

Versatile
One of the things that I really liked about Smore was the fact that it could be used for so many different reasons. My example above, advertising for a party, is just the tip of the iceberg for this application. You can use to send newsletters to customers, it can be a great way to put a collage of pictures from an event that you had, and it can also be used pseudo webpage for yourself if you wanted to. These are just a few of the ways that Smore can be used, and it looks to me like they are adding more features in the future. They have a payment feature coming where I am guessing you will be able to sell something through their app, which would be nice.
Pricing
Smore has a good selection of pricing plans to choose from. You can always start with their free option, which gives you a handful of limitations, then you can start to upgrade to one of their paid plans if you want. They start out at $19/month and go up to $99/month, with a $49/month plan in the middle. Each paid plan comes with unlimited flyers, analytics, and a host of other features. I think most people can get away with the free or Personal plan. If you are an educator who is looking to use Smore in your classroom, they also have a different pricing structure for you, which gives you a bit of a discount.

Final Thoughts
Overall, I really liked the concept of Smore; it was easy to use and they do a lot of the heavy lifting for you. You have to just fill in your information and add some things and they make your flyer look really good. I liked that it was so versatile and that it could be used in a number of different scenarios. Their main competition is going to come from CheckThis, which does similar things, but doesn’t look as aesthetically pleasing. If you are looking for a way to spice up your advertising or are getting tired of just using Facebook or some other boring way to create a flyer, you should definitely check out Smore.
