Weekly Poll: What Problems Would You Like to See Web Apps Solve?

Last week, I wrote an op-ed about how so many web apps are so similar to each other and how that needs to change. Then, I checked our Web.AppStorm Facebook page, and saw a comment from a user complaining that we’d featured yet another invoicing app. There’s so many web apps that fit into a half dozen verticals, and while tons of these are amazing and useful apps, there’s only so many project management and to-do list and invoicing apps that the world needs.

The web is a great platform for disruption, for apps that change the way we think about computing and make our lives better. WolframAlpha is a great example of a web app that put the power of massive computing resources and seemingly limitless troves of data to work for us to make it easier to learn more about the world around us. We need web apps that don’t fit the old, traditional modes of business productivity tools and social networks. We need apps that redefine what it means to be a web app.

But it can all start with an idea. So that’s why I’d love to know: what would you like to see web apps do? What’s an area that you’d like to see a web app for that would help you in your work and life? Do you have any ideas for web apps that would push the entire industry forward and make us look at web apps differently? Or perhaps do you have a radically new idea for how to take on an existing category of apps that would be so good, would wouldn’t even be able to compare it to existing apps that do the same task? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
