“Sometimes the only sane answer to an insane world is insanity”, Fox Mulder.
The surefire way to get branded a nutcase is to start talking about one’s belief in UFOs, aliens and other paranormal phenomenon. But it is a great time pass to watch grainy videos and over exposed pictures to check if they are real. At the very least, they make up for a pretty good laugh.
Like all things in this universe (and beyond), there is a probability that these paranormal occurrences could really exist. If there is one thing that makes UFO and paranormal phenomenon an object of ridicule, it is those fanboys themselves who just go overboard with their claims and conspiracy theories. So after the jump comes a round up of news outlets that are less ridiculous and I dedicate this one to the dear old Nessie.
Paranormal News
Paranormal News
Paranormal News is a news submission engine for UFO, alien and paranormal enthusiasts. Consider this like the alien Digg except that you don’t get to vote up or down the news stories. While still belonging to the stone age of design, they work hard to expose conspiracies from the space age and beyond! There is a plenty of information in a number of categories from Animal mutilation, crop circles to Moon and Mars anomalies.
Once you a click on the categories, there is a section dedicated to article links from newspapers. So if you are not upto reading from the news blog hosted by an attic resident, you can go directly to the professional news coverage. A lively chat session is hosted in the homepage for the fellow enthusiasts to interact with each other.
UFO Digest
UFO Digest
UFO Digest has a decent looking three column design and is a curated UFO and Paranormal news outlet. The content is available in highly organized categories and sub categories with the pictures of the authors who wrote the articles giving readers a sense of confidence that the news has the potential to be a bit truthful. Articles like aliens informing a Swiss “Prophet” about the real damage of BP oil spill make me laugh (as a sane person) and cry (as a UFO enthusiast).
They have got book and movie reviews, a buzzing forum and a market place for videos.
Unexplainable
Unexplainable
Unexplainable has got more categories than the outlets mentioned before. They tend to go all psychological on you with categories on ESP, Telepathy, Sleep, lucid dreaming (!) etc. Unexplainable does post some serious news on a regular basis and if they could just avoid posting articles without a photograph and avoid articles like a vampire like creature attacking dogs, things would be much better for them. They do have a marketplace that sells all kinds of alternative medicine and therapeutic CDs and not any UFO ones.
Area 51
Area 51
Just like the UFO’s which are totally useless without their mother ship, whatever credibility UFO and Paranormal enthusiasts have in this world can attributed to the existence of Area 51. So when a site goes by the same name we expect it to be the holy grail of UFO and Paranormal information. Well, it actually turns out to be one! Area51.org is like the AllTop of UFO and Paranormal domain listing content from some of the popular and independent UFO and Paranormal outlets. The site has a decent design and is pretty navigable to sift through all the content available. Links to Metacafe videos that are related to UFOs are worth a watch.
Paranormal Spy
Paranormal Spy
With a great domain name, a neat design and frequently updated content Paranormal Spy is a very professional UFO and Paranormal news outlet. The site is primarily engaged is news analysis and always post articles that have been reported in popular media linking back to them to enhance the credibility of the post. I loved the way they post chronicles (like roundups) of links to articles from various sources. The categories in this blog are not subject oriented but are source oriented ie. articles can be viewed based on the TV segments, interviews, videos, news from where they were originated from.
UFO Casebook
UFO Casebook
UFO casebook is dedicated exclusively to Alien and UFO news. So if you are looking for ghosts, reptilians or Chuck Norris, this is not the right destination for you. To my surprise, I found the articles about UFO to be more grounded (pun unintended) and not over the top crazy. For instance, one thing that prevents me from believing that UFOs and aliens exist is the fact that they almost always appear over nations of strategic importance and military might. So when I come across a saner analysis as to why China has as much as 8 UFO sightings a month, the site becomes credible. Multiple articles are posted everyday and most of them carry a photograph or video to support the claim.
The Gralien Report
Gralien Report
People at The Gralien Report love longform articles! As the blog’s subtitle claims, they deal with weird news, anomalies and exopolitics (What?) from beyond the fringe, in depth. This is not an outlet for newbies who are exploring UFO and Paranormal phenomenon but for those who are in a bit too deep and those who have some patience to read a bit to get there. Some articles on topics like Subatomic specters and casual multiplicity made my head spin.
UFO Enthusiast
UFO Enthusiast
UFO Enthusiast is a great place to get the UFO and alien video fix. Thought most of the videos are hosted in YouTube, it is a one stop destination to get a good look at those grainy flying saucers. They have a bookmarklet that allows fellow UFO enthusiasts to share videos they liked. Just when I thought they were doing a level headed job, I found a ticking clock counting down to 2012. Sigh!
Ghost Theory
Ghost Theory
As the name suggests, Ghost Theory is a blog chronicling sightings of those floating white translucent thingies. While they post a lot of articles and interviews regarding ghost encounters, there are some really creepy pictures that I wish I hadn’t looked (I live alone). Occasional UFO and aliens news also make the frontpage and there is a section for reviews of books on ghosts.
UFO Seek
UFO Seek
UFO Seek is a search engine and news information outlet for UFO and Paranormal news. They have got an exhaustive collection of links from various websites including very credible ones like NASA. The sheer number of categories and links available is pretty awesome. A great place to start if you are looking for something specific.
