In this Adobe Photoshop tutorial i will show you how to turn a new photo into an old photo.

Step 1

Start by opening photo. Go to Image > Image size to reduce photo size to 1000px width and 750px height.

Step 2

We are going now to create noise effect. Create new layer, press D to set up foreground and background colors as black and white and then apply Filter > Render > Clouds.

Step 3

After that apply Filter > Noise > Add Noise with next presets:

Change layer mode to Soft Light for this layer.

Step 5

Now we are going to create light sepia effect. For this purpose I created new layer above and fill it with color of #e6e1cc.

Step 6

Then change layer mode to Color and you should get next effect.

Step 7

After that create additional layer with Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Levels:

And set up following levels presets:

To add scratches to the photo create new layer, press D to set up foreground and background colors as black and white and then apply Filter > Render > Clouds again.

Step 9

Apply Filter > Render > Fibers:

Step 10

Now apply Image > Adjustments > Threshold:

Now apply Image > Adjustments > Threshold:

Step 12

Apply again Filter > Blur > Blur More.

Step 13

Change layer mode to Soft Light and you will see the difference.

Step 14

Reduce layer opacity to 70%.

Step 15

Create a new layer. Select Gradient Tool, select some appropriate colors, for example colors of #e5e5e5, #000000 and drag a radial gradient.

After that change layer mode for this layer to Overlay and tutorial is complete.

In this lesson, you will learn step by step how to create a fog. We will also add a picture fantasy character which will be walking on our landscape.

Step 1

Start by opening forest image. Go to Image > Image size to reduce photo size to 1000px width and 669px height.

Step 2

To create a sense of dense fog on the distance and dispersion on the foreground, we will make a few layers of fog, but with different gradations of saturation. Create a new layer (press Shift+Ctrl+N) and fill it with white color by using Paint Bucket Tool, then set up opacity to 95% for current layer. After that we need to create mask for current layer. Use Select > Load Selection to select layer content, then use Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal All to create mask for all layer. Now remove selection with Ctrl+D and move to the next step. Select the Gradient Tool and fill our layer with linear black-and-white gradient as you can see on the picture below:

Step 3

Select the Eraser Tool (Soft Brush, Size: 100px, Opacity: 20%) and make a few strokes with brush on Layer Mask area and paint over the nearest tree and stone, the middle and foreground.

Step 4

To achieve the effect of realistic fog (the fog has the ability to climb and irregularly travel along the ground) first of all press D to set up foreground and background colors black and white, then create a new layer and apply Filter > Render > Clouds:

After applying filter to layer, change layer mode to Screen and set up opacity to 40%.

Step 6

We are now going to add goddess picture. Open the picture and copy it to our main canvas. Then use Edit > Free Transform to reduce picture of Goddess a little bit and move it left like on my screenshot, which you can see below:

Step 7

Duplicate goddess current layer with Layer > Duplicate Layer (or press Ctrl+J) and hide the bottom copy (click on the eye, which indicates layer visibility). Go to upper copy and change blending mode to Screen for this layer.

Step 8

Now we need to create mask for current layer. Use Select > Load Selection to select layer content, then use Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal All to create mask for all the layer. Now remove selection with Ctrl+D and select the Brush Tool (Opacity: 45%) with soft round brush and paint background area with black color.

Step 9

Go back to the hidden copy of layer and make it visible again. Use Select > Load Selection to select layer content, then use Layer > Layer Mask > Reveal All again to create mask for all layer. Now remove selection with Ctrl+D and select the Brush Tool (Opacity: 61%) with soft round brush and paint background area with black color again.

Final Image

Set opacity to 34% up for current layer and we are done with our tutorial.

Today I decided to create one unusual tutorial about landscape change effect, which you can apply for any image that you want.

Step 1

Start by opening image. Go to Image > Image size to reduce photo size to 1000px width and 669px height.

Step 2

Copy background layer twice using Ctrl+J, turn off visibility of the background layer (click on the eye, which indicates layer visibility) and don’t touch it so far, work with the Layer 1 copy. Change blending mode on layer to Color Burn to increase saturation.

Step 3

Copy the layer once again (Ctrl+J) and change blending mode to Screen on the second copied layer (it will be above all the layers).

Step 4

Merge all the visible layers into one using Layer > Merge Visible (or hit Ctrl+Shift+E). After merging layers, apply Image > Adjustments > Color Balance to the layer.

Step 5

Copy this layer using Ctrl+J and apply Image > Adjustments > Brightness/Contrast to it.

Step 6

Change blending mode to Saturation to this layer.

Step 7

There should be three layers at the moment: background layer with the original image (with visibility turned off), the layer with edited image and the upper layer with very bright colors. Turn on visibility of the background layer and go to Layer > New > Layer from Background. Finally move it above all the layers.

Step 8

Apply to this layer Image > Adjustments > Hue/Saturation with the following settings:

Using the Rectangular Marquee Tool select the left part of the picture like on image below.

Step 10

Apply transformation to this area using Edit > Transform > Warp.

Step 11

Then turn down the upper corner, like a page:

Finally you should get a result similar to this one:

Do the same thing to the second part of the photo.

Step 14

Under the folded corners shade is needed, for this purpose we’ll create a new layer, assign Soft Light blending mode to it. Choose soft-edged brush, 80 px in diameter, black color (#000000), 50% opacity and with the help of Brush Tool darken the area under folded corners. At first work with one part (I worked with the right part at first).

Step 15

To increase contrast lighten edges and corners again with Brush Tool (while lightening we shift black color to white #ffffff) as you can see on next image.

Final Image

Apply Brush Tool again on the left part of the image and you finished this tutorial.
