I am developing a Music website that features and video. Instead of multiple posts with embedded audio/video, I would like to enhance the user experience by creating a single page multimedia player with a range of features.
This project is for the design and development of a web-based multimedia player (audio and video) imbedded into a web page. The player should be visible on a single web page without having to scroll down. The design should make the use of expandable/collapsable sections to save on space as well as fixed height sections with scroll bars.
There would be a panel on the left hand side for viewing the video or hearing the audio. Above this would be the Title and Artist on two lines.
The player should have the ability to be expanded to full screen. Below the player would be an aggregated rating (5 stars like iTunes) as well as an option for the user to rate the audio or video.
Below would be a fixed length panel (scrollable) containing information about the video (Post Description) and a link to an external URL.
Below this would be a fixed length panel (scrollable) of 10 comments, with the ability to move to other pages (if more than 10 comments). There should be a link (pop-up window) to allow users to enter their own comments. No user registration is required, but there should be a recaptcha style verification for all comment posts.
Below the player would be an open section to post links to Twitter feeds, links etc.
On the right hand side would be a search field which would return results in an expandable/collapsable list below the search box.
Below this would be a list of stacked categories which when clicked on gets expanded (collapsed if clicked on again, or if another category is expanded). Example of categories are Newly Added, Top Charts etc. This list would contain the audio and video posts (only Headline field would be shown). When a post is clicked, the corresponding Artist, Title, Video/Audio, Post Description and link displays in the left hand pane. The Category list pane should be a fixed length that is long enough to show 10 posts. Users would then use the scroll bar to see earlier posts. A max of 50 posts should only be shown in each of these categories.
There should be one category (Whats New) that shows the latest 50 posts.
Below this list of stacked categories would be an option to view all posted content in alphabetical order based on the Artist Name (A-Z links). Again this would be an expandable list to save space.
Features
1. Bank end interface (CMS) to manage categories and posts as well as delete comments etc.
2. The player should be able to play audio and video from all the major sites like YouTube, Yahoo, Vimeo etc as well as for content that is directly uploaded to the site.
3. Back end system should allow for the uploading of video or audio to the site as well as posting links to external sites (YouTube, Vimeo, Yahoo etc).
4. For audio posts, the CMS should have the ability to load an image that fills up the player. If no image is posted, there should be a default image option.
5. In the CMS the person posting can select a category to post the audio/video to.
6. Each post would have the following fields: Headline, Artist, Title, Description, URL link, Image FIle (for Audio), Audio/Video link and Category.
7. The player should have the standard YouTube style controls as well as options to “Tweet This” or post to Facebook.
Its important that the design be in a way that does not require the user to have to scroll the whole webpage…everything should be visible on a single screen. The design should also leave space for a logo and a background image/design “skin” that will be provided. If you can also design the skin and logo even better! There should also be so space at the top for a banner ad.
Would like the player to be visible on iPods/iPad so no flash based players please.
