1) Users upload a .png image, only png with transparent background, at least 1 pixel on the image must be transparent.
2) Resize the original image to 1000×500 (max. size) without losing the aspect ratio of the original image.
3) Then show the resized image centered and full size and ask “Is the quality good enough?” Yes / No.
If “No” then delete the old image and let the user upload a new file.
