Is responsive web design enough to boost your ranking?

Some of them took into consideration some regular mobile usability guidelines. Responsive website creators were better alternative to others. Some dig deeper into the development of mobile apps and mobile versions of their sites. Still, this is no longer enough in order to boost your site’s visibility in Google. Keep reading further to find the reason why responsive web design goes dead.

Is responsive web design enough?

Being responsive means that the layout if your site can adjust to all the major screen sizes, thus revealing the data in a comprehensive way. However, the world is changing all the time, as well as the demands of the web. With the growing popularity of smartphones and other handheld devices, web developers need to re-think the way they build sites.

The biggest problem of responsive designs stands behind their main strength, i.e. delivering the same pieces of content regardless of the device used to access a website. However, we should not forget about the usability of our web projects. With the purpose to provide the web audience with the flawless browsing experience, many businesses simply split the content into two major groups – data for desktop computers and smartphones. There is a general belief that both of these two big groups have different browsing intentions. For example, banks and other financial institutions can limit the number of operations that a user can perform on-the-go, leaving only the most essential ones. This may be the possibility to check the current balance, transfer cash or see the currency exchange rates.

Delivering equal pieces of content to the desktop and mobile users, the weight of responsive websites remains the same. Unfortunately, there no lightweight versions of responsive designs presented as of yet. If a person reaches your website from a smartphone (which is generally considered to be slower than a desktop device), then it will take more time to load all data of your website. Taking into account that the modern-day users won’t wait for longer than 3 seconds for your site’s data to load, you face the risk of losing traffic. Additionally, Google doesn’t give good ranking to the slow loading sites.

AMP

AMP stands for Accelerated Mobile Pages. The main idea that stands behind the AMP technology is providing faster loading speeds for web pages on mobile devices. Taking into account that desktop websites contain content that is irrelevant to the devices with smaller screens, AMP web pages cut off all unnecessary elements, thus keeping the users’ attention focused on the essentials.

PWA

PWA stands for Progressive Web Apps. In order words, these are web-based applications that deliver the browsing experience that is similar to using mobile apps. Looking similar to the mobile software, PWA have a number of similarities with regular websites.

One of the key features and greatest advantages of PWA is that no download or installation are needed (you simply enter the habitual URL address of the site that you want to reach). PWAs are fully responsive. These can be shared with other users by means of shareable links that can refer to any page needed.

On the other hand, PWAs have certain similarities with mobile apps. For example, they feature almost identical UI/UX. These do not require the constant network connection. If needed, users can create quick shortcuts on their devices, as well as receive push notifications.

Which one is best?

With all that being said, that’s expected to be a better alternative to responsive web designs? While both of these two technologies have certain particularities, the two go hand-in-hand when it comes to providing the users with the seamless browsing experience. Whether you opt for an AMP site or give your preference to PWA, you may feel certain that the content will load quicker than on responsive sites. As a result, this will improve your site’s ranking in search engines.

AMP sites provide the users with a quick access to the content, which means it mainly guarantees the quicker page loading whatever device a person uses. PWA is more about keeping the users better engaged with your content. Judging by the usability of a website, PWA seems to be a better alternative to responsive web pages. However, AMP shouldn’t be neglected either. 92% of the web users will give up on a site if they find it difficult to navigate. 3-seconds page loading wait will result in the users leaving for faster-loading competitor web pages.

Online security is highly essential for both web users and websites. PWA takes the support of the secure HTTPS connection between a user and your site. It builds more trust and notifies if the connection is lost or the page is closed. That’s one more feature that differs AMP from PWA. A number of the modern-day technologies are supported by https only. According to researchers, people spend 74% more time on PWAs, which can result in the 82% conversion rates growth.

Final Words

Running responsive websites isn’t enough any longer. The time of the big changes has come! So, get ready to shift for the latest speed and usability-optimized technologies that will bring higher rankings to your site.

The importance of data science

Collecting data is not a new practice. However, data science is specifically about the collection and analysis of the data available on the internet. Since it does not look like the internet is going anywhere anytime soon, you might want to give yourself a moment to think about why a field like data science is important.

Basic Information

The term “data science” did not get used for the first time until roughly 2001. In just under two decades, the term has seen widespread usage across the entire planet. Not only does an entire field of study now exist around data science, but new and enticing job opportunities are popping up everywhere for data scientists. Since so many people access the internet each day and share all kinds of data, experts predict the need for capable data scientists is going to skyrocket in coming years.

Though the demand is on the rise, the supply does not look as promising. Since it is a new field, there are not many qualified individuals who can work as data scientists at the present moment. According to a number of studies, this could easily lead to a huge disparity in how many jobs are available and how many people can actually fill the positions. If you think data scientist jobs in New York might be worth your consideration, then now is the time for you to take a look at your options and see what’s out there.

Certification Opportunities

Due to the fact that a great deal of positions will soon be available in a field where very few people work, many companies are trying to take a proactive step towards changing the future. Instead of going back to college and enrolling in a new field of study, companies are offering programs where participants can take a few classes and receive certification to work as a data scientists. This can be very exciting for anyone who is looking to cash in on a new field but does not feel like returning to an academic institution for a new degree.

As more and more people start accessing the internet on a regular basis, there is no telling how much data will be out there. At the moment, it already seems as if there is near-infinite data available on the internet. Whether you are curious about starting a new career or you think the idea of collecting data is fascinating in and of itself, there is a lot that can be learned about data science. Take time to research some more and see what you can discover about this emerging field and all it has to offer the planet.

Why a WooCommerce Product List View plugin can increase your sales

A WooCommerce list view plugin is a WordPress plugin that takes the products from your e-commerce store and displays them in a table or list-based layout.

At its simplest, you can use the plugin to create a very simple list view with a single column listing the product names only. At its most advanced, you can build complex product tables with multiple columns and search filters.

The key difference between the default WooCommerce store layouts and a product list view is that each product is listed on its own row in the table, instead of side-by-side. This brings several benefits, which is why a list view can increase your sales.

List more products per page

A WooCommerce product list view is a more structured way of listing products, and lets you display more products within a smaller space. This saves your customers time, as they can find products more quickly without scrolling through multiple pages. As a result, they stay on your site for longer and are more likely to buy from you.

Include more product data in the list

Some websites use a WooCommerce product list view plugin to create a very simple list, with just the product names. This is perfect for some types of products. For products where customers need more information to convince them to buy, you can increase sales by adding extra columns of product data to the list view. This can be anything from product images and pricing, to product attributes, custom fields and taxonomies.

Customers can find products more easily

A flexible list view plugin lets you create a basic list without search features, or add extras such as keyword search and product filters. These are ideal if you have lots of products and need a quick way for customers to search based on data such as category, tag or attribute.

Allow quick ordering directly from the product list view

To increase your sales even further, the best WooCommerce product list view plugins can transform the list into a fully functional WooCommerce order form. By including an add to cart column in the list view, customers can select quantities, variations and add to the cart without having to click elsewhere. This further speeds up the buying process and boosts conversions.

As you can see, there are lots of reasons why a list view plugin can increase your sales. Next, I’ll tell you how to create a WooCommerce product list view using the bestselling WooCommerce Product Table plugin.

What is WooCommerce Product Table?

WooCommerce Product Table is the flagship product from UK WordPress plugin company Barn2 Media. It creates a table-based WooCommerce product list view of any or all of your store’s products.

Product tables are perfect for creating lists of your products because they’re so flexible. You have full control over the information that is included in the list view, and can show or hide the extra controls such as search box and filters. You can list products in a read-only format, or you can include links to the single product page or show add to cart buttons directly in the product table. There are options to list all your products in a single table, or create multiple tables listing products based on their category or other data.

It’s simple to use, but a very sophisticated list view plugin.

How to use the WooCommerce list view shortcode

The Product Table table comes with a flexible WooCommerce product list view shortcode. There are over 50 options to configure your product list views and list products in different ways.

Here’s how to use it. (I’m assuming that you’ve already installed WooCommerce and added some products.)

  • Get WooCommerce Product Table and install it on your WordPress website.
  • Copy your license key from the order confirmation page or email.
  • Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Products > Product table and add your license key.
  • Look through the list of default settings. Change any settings to start configuring your WooCommerce product list view. (Tip: You can override each of these settings in the list view shortcode, but any options that you choose here will be used by default, which helps to keep the shortcode simpler.)
  • Go to the page where you want to use the WooCommerce list view plugin, and click the ‘Insert product table’ toolbar button. This will add the shortcode [product_table] to the page.

Finally, view the page and you’ll see your WooCommerce product list view in action.

To finish off, go back to the plugin settings page or use the shortcode options to customize your list view. You can also add more shortcodes to create further product lists, each showing different products from your WooCommerce store.

Keep tweaking until you’ve completely happy!

Next steps

To create your own WooCommerce product list view, you can get the Product Table plugin from Barn2 Media.

The authors have provided a detailed tutorial on how to create a WooCommerce product list view, as well as tips on using the plugin to improve your WooCommerce conversion rates even further. Use these to experiment with all the list view shortcode options, and display your products in a way that will maximize your sales and make your store a huge success.

How to design amazing images with Crello

Why you should try Crello

Crello is an online app that lets you design images online. You basically just need to select a template and do a little editing in order to have a quality image for illustrating your blog or website. Crello’s templates have been designed to meet standard dimensions and quality, and the app lets you import your own images and fonts.

Crello also has some premium features, but none of them is compulsory. So you can only pay for them when you are satisfied with your design, there are no hidden charges for any other services provided by the Crello tools. All designs are rendered in HD and many different output formats are available.

Let’s try out Crello

Let’s now give Crello a try and create a simple design. In this short tutorial, we will be using one of Crello’s templates in order to design a poster to advertise an upcoming party. This should just take about 10 minutes and we’ll be having a professional looking design.

The first step we need to take is to create an account on Crello’s website. Visit https://crello.com with your browser and click on the Sign Up button located at the upper right corner of the page. A box will appear, presenting three different options to sign up; Facebook, Google or the classic default option, where you use your email and a password.

If you choose the default option, fill the form with the required information, and a confirmation email will be sent to you. Follow the instructions in the email to set up your account. Once you have successfully created your account, you will be redirected to your Crello account page.

Now that we have a Crello account, we can freely make use of its resources. On your account homepage, you will find several available templates: click on the poster template and you will be redirected onto the editing page.

Basics of designing graphics are the image dimension and the color theme. I personally love darker color themes because they make designs look so classy. If we are not going to change the dimensions and are going to find a party poster template with a darker look, locate and click the search tab on the left corner of the page, input night party in the search box, then hit the enter button to run the search.

I scrolled down through the results, and right there I found a dark poster template that fits my needs. Now, simply drag the template inside the workspace (the white rectangular space) in order to edit it.

Once your template is inside the workspace, it’s ready for full editing: you can zoom to get a better view, and you can undo and redo each action you performed on the design. You also have buttons that allow you to save and continue later, as well as the ones to share and download the design. In this screenshot, I zoomed to 40%.

Now I’m going to start modifying the text, leaving the font and colors as they were.

  • Change the “EVERY FRIDAY” to “FRIDAY 27TH APRIL.
  • Hold the shift key, click on “9 PM TILL LATE” and “FRIDAY 27TH APRIL” text, they will be selected as a single element, move them up a bit to leave some space between them and the “JAZZ NIGHT” text.
  • Now I’m going to click on the text tab, then drag “ADD HEADING TEXT” to the space created in the previous step. On the floating option box, I’ll change the text color to match the rest of my design. Modify the default text to “CRELLO FAN” and place it directly on top of the “JAZZ NIGHT” text. Enlarge it to fit the same width as the text using the resizing controls.
  • To use my own image I must upload it first. Click the photos tab and go to upload, browse your local disk to find the desired photo and upload it. Once done, drag the uploaded photo onto your design, resize it if needed, then place it beside the bands’ text, and tilt it a little to give it a fancy look.

At this point, we should be having a design that looks like the image below:

If yes, we just completed the design, and now it’s time to save it for future reference, and then download it for usage. Click on the save button, then click on the download button.
There are five different formats in which you can download your design; JPG, PNG, and PNG transparent are ideal for web and desktop usage while PDF and PDF prints are ideal for printing on materials.

It is also at this point you are required to pay for any premium elements you might have used in your design.
Here is the final product of the designed poster.

As you can see, it is very easy to create amazing designs with Crello.

6 hacks to get more backlinks from email marketing

Before we dive into several methods of generating backlinks through email marketing let’s take a moment and understand why you are doing it. The main reason you need to create backlinks is because you want to drive traffic to your website.

Your website is often the crown jewel of your business because it represents your company’s digital presence. As a hub for your business, your website often contains information about your products, services, culture, and most importantly your branding.

While there are various methods of using traditional SEO methods to generate backlinks to your website, many content marketers have yet to explore ways to generate backlinks from email marketing. Increasing visibility is crucial for any business and since you have worked so hard on your website, why not show it off. Follow these 6 hacks to get more backlinks from email marketing.

Engaging content

In a 1996 essay, Bill Gates coined the term “Content is King.” The above infographic is just a short but informative snapshot of what goes on within 60 seconds on the web. As you can see, there is so much going on that it’s going to be difficult to stand out as a brand. Instead of mass producing content, focus on creating quality content.

Although content marketing is not a new concept, in recent years digital marketers have strategically used content marketing to advertise their products and services through the web. Content is just as important when it comes to email marketing, whether it’s videos, images, taglines and perhaps even emoji – use whatever is needed to reach out to your audience.

For example, every minute, 1440 WordPress blogs are published and 500 hours of content are upload to YouTube. Therefore, the competition is steep which means that you need to work harder just to attract your customer’s attention. Create engaging content through storytelling and if possible include videos or infographics in your emails. Four times as many consumers would prefer to watch a video rather than reading about it.

Have a clear backlink leading back to your website or article

While this advice might seem obvious, sometimes we get caught up in designing and formatting our emails that we forget the primary reason as to why we are doing it in the first place.

Since a company’s website is the most powerful marketing tool, always make sure to include a backlink within your emails so customers can visit your website or blog articles. Pay attention to broken links as some hyperlinks might not display correctly.

Prior to sending out emails to your customers, always test your emails to ensure all your links are working through desktop viewing as well as through mobile devices. If you are unsure what to include in your email marketing campaigns, have a look at some of these email templates.

Know your target audience

Depending on your industry, your business might have a different way to communicate. The statistics above show the percentage of users that communicate through emails on their mobile phones in accordance to their sector. Shown interestingly through the numbers, TV/Radio/Film has an opening rate of 71.89% while wholesale has the lowest opening rate at only 26.88%.

The way we communicate has drastically changed over the last decade. As a brand, you need to know your target audience and understand the best methods to reach your consumers. Many companies often have a niche market in which they will find the most loyal customers.

For example, a company such as Snapchat has a younger audience in comparison to a company like LinkedIn; therefore, the way these companies communicate will be remarkably different. According to a report by Experian, 56% of brands that use emoji in their email subject lines had a higher open rate. In addition, consumers who purchase products through email spend 138% more than those who don’t receive email offers. As a result, it’s critical to know your audience and create content that engages them.

Optimize for mobile devices

According to research, more individuals of all ages are reading emails more through their mobile phones than their desktops. About 3 in 5 consumers check their emails through their phones and 75% say they use their smartphone frequently just to check their email. Whether it’s design or content, make sure that your emails are properly formatted and can be displayed on all devices.

Some of your readers might be reading your emails from a tablet or a phone; therefore, make sure that your messages are displaying correctly without any formatting issues. According to the latest research, 61% of users open their emails through their mobile, 15% on desktop and 24% in a webmail client. Some customers have opted to receive text only on their mobile phones, so consider how your emails might display to these customers. Studies show that titles with 6-13 words attract the highest and most consistent amount of traffic.

Guide your customers

Make sure that you are able to solve your customer’s problems and provide them with solutions through your offerings. Include a call to action within your emails. Creating an engaging digital marketing campaign will ensure that your customer will have a seamless customer experience and continue to engage with your email marketing offers.

Consumers often expect a business to solve their problems; therefore, by knowing more about your customers’ pain points you can provide them with products and services that match their needs. In the end, customers can walk away with a purchase that meets their needs.

Improve customer experience

Customer experience is important not only when your customers are dealing with your website or mobile app but whenever they are dealing with your company as a whole. Since emails are essentially an extension of your company’s marketing offers, you should also focus on improving customer experience here. There are roughly about 269 billion emails sent in 2017; therefore, it’s important to focus on the quality of your emails rather than quantity.

By improving customer experience, you can improve customer service and maintain high customer ratings. Gartner predicts that more than 50% of organizations will redirect their investments to customer experience innovations in 2018. As a company, you can stand out by improving your customer’s user experience the moment they interact your emails.

According to research, the opening rate for email sent in North America is 34.1%. What’s more? Improving customer experience is the new battlefield for many companies as 89% of businesses are soon expected to compete mainly on customer experience and companies that take this concept seriously will stand out from the competition.

Conclusion

Email marketing can be a powerful option for your business to grow and gain visibility online. Like the old saying, less is more, so focus on quality rather than quantity when reaching out to your customers through emails.

By improving user experience through your email marketing strategy, you can continue to maintain a strong relationship with your current customers and reach out to a new targeted audience. According to research, 52% of customers are less likely to engage with a company due to bad mobile experience. Therefore, make sure that your emails are optimized for mobile viewing and have a good layout with crucial elements such as header, titles, and images.

By following these email marketing tips and paying attention to the latest marketing trends, you can be well on your way to increase traffic to your website as well as improving your email opening rates.

How to optimize your site for Google’s mobile first changes

This change began rollout on March 26, 2018, though Google has not remarked on what websites are being hit by these initial stages. Which is why many businesses may be taken by surprise if a dramatic drop in mobile traffic was to occur. Preemptive optimization now, then, could ensure that your site does not experience this. And if you optimize now and your competitors do not, you could see yourself well rewarded in SERPs for your efforts.

So, with that in mind, what exactly is mobile first and what do you need to be doing in order to make sure your site is ready for Google’s mobile-first incentive?

What is Mobile First?

The mobile-first index is simple in that it is a change from ranking sites based on their desktop version to ranking them based on mobile content instead. This means, also, that desktop users will see search results based on the quality of mobile sites. So, moving forward sites that wish to rank well and be discoverable need to have a well optimized mobile site.

Of course, if you do not have a mobile version of your site Google states that your desktop site will continue to be crawled as usual. But, there are many that are worried this will have a negative effect on results nevertheless.

In either case, it is clear that having a well-optimized mobile content is vital for the future of your site. Which is why optimizing now can save you a big headache later.

Site tests

Not sure if your site is optimized for mobile? Or how fast it loads? Then you need to use online tools – which are free – to gauge what state your site is currently in. Using site test tools also gives you the benefit of understanding where you were at the start, implementing changes and then using the tools again to check these changes worked. They can be used as a measure of your success.

Good tools for this include Google’s PageSpeed Insights and Pingdom.

Speed up your site

One of the biggest ways to improve your site’s mobile optimization and prepare your site for the mobile-first index is through improving site speed. The faster your site loads, the better user experience and the better Google will rank your site. Slow, clunky loading and the like will only cause people to bounce from your site and Google to penalize you.

There are three main ways that you can improve your site speed quickly and efficiently:

  • AMP – The Accelerated Mobile Pages Project is aimed at improving the overall mobile landscape. It used pared-down HTML, enabling much faster loading. Content is also cached by Google itself which speeds up load time immensely. Plenty of plugins exist for this.
  • PWA – Progressive Web Apps loads instantly, responds to user clicks and includes an immersive UX. You can explore this further on Google’s developer’s website.
  • Compress Images – image size and loading times is a big offender for poor mobile performance on your site. So, compressing these images across your site is vital. There are plenty of WordPress plugins that do this for you, it’s just a case of finding one you like!

At the end of the day, site speed should be a priority to continually improve for good UX. But, as it also helps with dealing and ranking well in Google’s new mobile-first index it should also be a much bigger priority for you and your website.

Mobile First work process

Instead of being reactionary when it comes to mobile first, you need to focus your efforts on mobile in the first place in order to ensure you have the best website possible – for both Google and user benefit. This means changing the mindset you have when it comes to managing and updating your site, but it can be extremely beneficial in the long term.

Of course, you could also choose to forego a responsive site and simply use an app to give your users the best mobile experience possible. With the help of app developers, you can easily create an intuitive UX design which gives users quick loading, good content and the best mobile experience possible. This isn’t a possibility for every site, obviously, but it should seriously be considered if you are interested in bringing your UX to the next level.

Conclusions

Being fast is the name of the game moving forward in 2018. If you site loading speed is anything less than instantaneous, then you will be harshly judged by both Google and your users. So, invest in optimizing your site speed now to prepare for the full rollout of the mobile-first index. Changes won’t be noticeable now, in the first stages of rollout, but they could hit you hard later if you don’t act.

Securing WordPress AJAX forms using nonces

What are WordPress nonces?

According to the codex, a nonce is a “number used once” to help protect URLs and forms from certain types of misuse, malicious or otherwise.

WordPress can create nonces for them to be submitted via form or another action, and on the other hand, it can verify the nonce passed in a form or an action is valid before accepting the associated data.

For more info about nonces, check out the WordPress codex.

The form

For this tutorial, we need to create two files: ajax.php, which will contain the code needed to process the request, and page-form.php, the main file, containing a simple form. Using a nonce adds an extra layer of security to WordPress themes and plugin you might create.

Those two files should be created in your WordPress theme directory. You can either use a FTP program or the cPanel provided by your web hosting to do so.

Let’s start by creating a simple HTML form in the page-form.php file.

<form id="myform">
  <div class="form-group">
    <label for="formGroupExampleInput">Example label</label>
    <input type="text" class="form-control" id="formGroupExampleInput" placeholder="Example input">
  </div>
  <div class="form-group">
    <label for="formGroupExampleInput2">Another label</label>
    <input type="text" class="form-control" id="formGroupExampleInput2" placeholder="Another input">
  </div>

  <?php wp_nonce_field( 'my_nonce' ); ?>

  <input type="submit" id="submit" value="Submit" />

</form>

Nothing special about this form, except a call to wp_nonce_field() on line 11. This function creates a nonce and adds it to the form using a hidden field. Another hidden field is created by the same function to store the referer.

If you look at the source of your page-form.php file, you’ll see that the wp_nonce_field() function has outputted something similar to the following:

<input type="hidden" id="_wpnonce" name="_wpnonce" value="ad8a767ba0" />
<input type="hidden" name="_wp_http_referer" value="/myaccount/mypage/" />

For more information on the function, don’t hesitate to refer to the codex.

Sending the form using jQuery

Now, we’re going to use some jQuery to send our form.

jQuery( document ).ready(function() {
	jQuery( "#submit" ).click(function() {
		 jQuery.post( "https://yoursite.com/ajax.php", jQuery('#myform').serialize())
			.done(function( data ) {
			alert(data);
		});
		return false;
	});
});

The code is pretty self-explanatory: When the user attempts to send the form, jQuery sends an AJAX request to https://yoursite.com/ajax.php, with the serialized form as content.

Verifying the nonce using PHP

Once the data has been sent, we need to verify that the nonce is valid. Here’s the content of the ajax.php file to which jQuery has sent the data:

<?php
define( 'WP_USE_THEMES', false );
require_once( $_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT'] . '/wp-load.php' );

if (!check_ajax_referer( 'my_nonce' )){
	wp_die();
}

// If the nonce is correct, process the data

Lines 2 and 3 are including WordPress in the file. This step is necessary since we need the WordPress core to be included in order to use WP functions.

On line 5, WordPress is checking for a nonce named my_nonce using the check_ajax_referer() function, which returns true if the nonce is valid.

If the nonce is not valid, wp_die() is called and the execution of the script will be terminated. Otherwise, the script will proceed your data as needed.

5 must have WordPress plugins for digital marketing

As seen on Expo Marketing Group Graphic Designer Salary, graphic designing and advertising are extremely important in order to promote an online business.

To achieve the marketing goals of your company and increase clicks, and traffic to your website, WordPress can be a real time-saving tool with its handy and helpful plugins. Marketers need to learn about plugins and know which ones to use in order to make the most out of it.

Analytics with Jetpack

Jetpack is the ultimate toolkit for WordPress. It gives you everything you need to design, secure, and grow your site in one bundle.

All these core features are free. Advanced features like daily backups, spam protection, and SEO tools can be added with one of three simple and affordable plans.

Just Writing

Good content will attract readers just with its title. Titles of your posts are extremely important, as they can attract or turn off potential new readers. Therefore, it’s really important that your posts titles can grab readers attention. Title experiments is a WordPress plugin that allows you to post titles as a test. You can use multiple titles for a single post, and check which ones are working the best.

5 WordPress content hacks you didn’t know about

Once a business has chosen a domain name, set up their blog, and started creating content, they are going to face challenges and content issues. Here are a few content hacks you may not know about.

Protect your content from hackers

Unfortunately, since WordPress is a commonly used platform, hackers will often try to gain access to it so they can manipulate sites, steal personal information, and so on. Some security plugins, as such as WordFence are doing a great job in keeping hackers out, but there’s one other thing you can do to protect your content and keep the rest of your data safe as well.

To do this, password protect your admin directory. Go to your cPanel, and under security, you will find the password protect directories button. Click on it, select the directories you want to protect, and enter a unique password. This will require an authentication whenever you try to access that directory.

Show images in rows and columns

By default, when you add multiple images to your WordPress theme, they usually show up side by side or even on top of each other. This does not look good, and it also means users, especially those on mobile devices, will have to scroll a lot to see all of them.

You can do this without plugins by uploading photos you want to display in a grid, selecting create gallery under the Add media tab, and then choosing how you want the gallery to appear. Then simply hit insert gallery.
If you run a photography blog, this option may lack some key features, and you will be better off using a gallery plugin. There are several options available, including Envira Gallery.

Allow Users to Subscribe to Comments

Normally, for a user to see additional comments on your post once they have left one of their own, they would have to revisit or reload the same blog post page. However, you can offer the option to subscribe to comments so when someone leaves another comment, they will be notified by email.

This is easy to do either in your theme settings if this option is offered, or by using a plugin like Subscribe to Comments Reloaded that will add this feature to any theme on your website. This will enhance the user experience and bring you more organic traffic, as well as repeat page visits.

Display excerpt on home and archive pages

Many free and premium themes have this feature as a part of the package, but you have to enable it under the appearance settings of your website. This means that on the homepage, an excerpt is displayed instead of the whole article.

This lets users scroll through articles and choose which one they want to read a little more easily, making your content more viewable. While this is common on much larger websites, many smaller blogs do not know about or use it.

If your theme doesn’t have this feature, there are plug-ins that will enable it, and allow you to customize the excerpt along with the Read More tag at the end.

Show excerpts in RSS feed

By default, your RSS feed shows entire articles to subscribers. This does two things: First, it prevents the subscriber from visiting your website, lowering your actual traffic numbers. It also allows content scrapers to gather your entire article and copy it without actually visiting your site.

To fix this simply go to your settings for reading, and scroll down to For each article in feed, show: Select summary instead of full text and hit the save changes button. Your content and traffic are now better protected.

Add Multiple Authors to Posts

Do you have posts on your site that were created by more than one author and you want to credit them? While that option is not available in standard settings, there is a way to do so that is quick and easy.

The simplest way is to download and activate the Co-Authors Plus plug-in. An “author” box will be automatically added to posts in your WP dashboard. You can add more authors there.

Include category in post URLs

Not only is this good from a user experience perspective because it gives more data about the post in the URL, it is also good for SEO purposes. Adding the category to the post URL is a pretty simple process.

First, go to the settings and permalinks page. Then navigate down and select custom structure. Then add /%category%/%postname%/ in the field next to it. It’s that simple.

There are tons of hacks, plugins, and tips for customizing your WordPress content. Use those to make your content look amazing, and stand out from other sites around you.
