OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion Update Now Available With Support For Windows 8 Via Boot Camp

The update, which has seen various beta releases over the past months, and by various, we mean a lot, brings with it a slew of new features and, perhaps more importantly, fixes to existing issues, making the overall user experience more worthwhile. Some of those issues may seem rather minor, whilst others are biggies, especially if they happened to affect you!

Perhaps the most interesting change, or at least the most fun to demo, is the ability to scan iTunes gift cards using a Mac’s built-in camera. It may not seem like much, but it’s certainly more convenient than having to enter those long codes every time you want to redeem a gift card! Admit it, we’ve been through it, but thanks to Apple, life is much more easier now.

Boot Camp is the beneficiary of some new features also, and if you’ve been wanting to install Windows 8 then you’re now in luck. Boot Camp now supports Microsoft’s latest operating system, though you won’t be able to swipe at your Mac’s screen just yet! Support for 3TB drives is also added, whereas users previously had to use workarounds in order to make Boot Camp play nicely with drives so large. 2.2TB was previously the upper limit for Boot Camp to play nicely.10.8.3-support windows-8

Jailbreak Untethered iOS 6.1.2

How-to Jailbreak iOS 6.1.2:

Step 1: Update your device to iOS 6.1.2 using iTunes (download iOS 6.1.2 from here): if you are jailbreaking your device, why not update it to the latest version of iOS? OTA updates might mess with the jailbreak, therefore a fresh restore via iTunes is strongly recommended.

Step 2: Turn off Passcode Lock in case you have it enabled. In order to do this, simply head on over to Settings > General > Passcode Lock > Off.

Step 3: Download Evasi0n 1.4, which adds the support for 6.1.2 [for WindowsMac or Linux]

evasi0n1.4

Step 4: Start up Evasi0n on your computer and simply click on the “Jailbreak” option. Kick back or grab a cup of coffee as Evasi0n does its work and jailbreaks your device. Remember not to touch anything while your device is being jailbroken.

Step 5: Once this is done, your device should boot straight back. You will see a new Jailbreak icon on your home screen. Tap on it in order to finish the process.

Step 6: Your device will now reboot quite a few times for a short while, before it boots into the jailbroken state. Once this is finally done, your device should boot back in a jailbroken state.

You are done: if everything has gone as expected, Evasi0n should indicate that the jailbreak is complete. Cydia should now also be on your home screen.

iOS 6.1.2 Releasing Early Next Week To Fix Exchange And Lock Screen Passcode Bugs

Soon after the release of iOS 6.1, it came to the attention of the tech world that a major security flaw allowed basically anybody with a spare couple of moments to slip through the passcode system and access a device’s confidential, and supposedly secure data. The release of iOS 6.1.1 a couple of days back, which fixed lingering cellular and battery issues with the iPhone 4S, is also susceptible, and an urgent update is required on all fronts to sort this mess out. According to iFun, a German blog which accurately pinpointed the aforementioned 6.1.1 release, reckons that will likely be “early next week”, meaning those conscious as to the security of their iPhone will only have to wait a couple more days.

Whenever Apple releases a new software update, users are quickly on hand to scrutinize it from every possible angle. Yet while some issues – even the larger scale ones such as the Apple Maps fiasco with iOS 6.0 back in September – can be managed, when it comes to security and privacy, users are somewhat less inclined to forgive. A user with a little nous discovered the significant security hole on Wednesday, and what’s even more striking than the fact the flaw is possible, is just how easy an ordinary user could heed the techniques outlined to wheedle their way into anybody’s device.
The Cupertino company has often prided itself on its high level of security and seamlessness in operation of its software product, so it was always likely an impromptu update would be just around the corner. It is unknown, at this stage, whether the untethered evasi0n jailbreak would will also be patched, but from Apple’s anti-jailbreak point of view, it is more than likely the the fruit company will abruptly end to the party, but it is yet to be confirmed when the day of release comes for iOS 6.1.2.

The company has already acknowledged the Exchange problem and is said to be working around the clock to prepare a suitable fix, so hopefully, this issue can be put in the past sooner rather than later.

Jailbreak Untethered Apple TV 5.2

The wait is over, and today we’re happy to release updated versions of aTV Flash (black) and Seas0nPass that support the recently released 5.2 (iOS 6.1) Apple TV software. Big thanks goes to the evad3rs for making much of this possible.

iOS 6.1 Jailbreak Untethered Evasi0n Updated To Version 1.2

The update that is now filtering through to Cydia and showing up as an update on devices carries a version number of 0.3-1. One of the main focus of the update is the bundled functionality to disable the over-the-air update daemons that annoyingly force users to be prompted of any available firmware updates. The installation of version 0.3-1 will mean that the Settings app will not make us aware of the availability of iOS 6.1.1, when it goes live at a point later on. Secondly, it fixes the automatic date and time issue on all devices which have been jailbroken using Evasi0n.

Evaders1

The Evasi0n desktop tools for Windows, Mac and Linux have also been revamped to the next version number, which is v1.2, to implement these changes on all newly jailbroken devices. If you are one of the few that have been waiting until all bugs have been ironed out before injecting the Evasi0n untether, then it would seem that you are set to benefit from the experience of others. All freshly jailbroken devices using the latest Mac, Windows and Linux iterations of Evasi0n should be free from many bugs being faced by numerous users worldwide.

If you’re already jailbroken using Evasi0n, simply launch Cydia, tap the Changes tab at the bottom of the screen and you should see an update to the Evasi0n untether package, install, and you’re done.

iPad 5 Conceptualized Again, Gets Compared To iPad mini, iPad 4 And iPhone 5 [IMAGES]

Speculations have already put the 5th iteration of the iPad at a rather smaller dimension in comparison to the current variants, albeit still larger than the iPad mini. Most notably, the renders indicate a much thinner bezel on the iPad 5 on the sides, while a thicker, although reduced, bezel on top and bottom of the device. The resultant is a rather decent sized tablet that is bound to get even more fans fall for it. Apple hasn’t been keen on changing the way its tablets looked until now, but it seems that if this render were to taken seriously, the fruit company has learnt a lesson or two.

This next is a side-by-side comparison of the dimensions for iPad 4, (proposed) iPad 5, and iPad mini. As you can see, the new render blends right in, and should be a good one to make real.

iOS 6.1.1 beta issued to developers Features

iOS 6.1.1 Features
Whilst, unlike previous iOS betas, the new iOS 6.1.1 release does not appear to have an expiry date, the software refresh is set to bring a number updates and new features to Apple’s collection of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices.

Focussing largely on improvements to the still issue hit iOS 6 Maps software, the new iOS 6.1.1 update is set to include “improved pronunciation of roads during turn-by-turn navigation.”

Continuing on the maps and navigation theme, further iOS 6.1.1 updates will see the latest iteration of Apple’s mobile OS offer “optimised direction to more strongly prefer highways over narrower roads,” as well as “indicating upcoming toll roads during turn-by-turn navigation.”

With a number of these updates to affect the Japanese markets, the latest iOS 6.1.1. update shows Apple’s growing desire to capitalise on emerging Asian markets, a push that has been rumoured to see Apple prepping a cheaper iPhone handset for the Chinese sector.

How To Fix Weather App After Evasi0n Jailbreak

iphone5-weather

Step 1: The fix involves running a script directly on the device itself to force a rebuild of the corrupt file. Launch Cydia, navigate to the Search section then find and install the OpenSSH package.

Step 2: When the OpenSSH package is installed, exit Cydia and load the Terminal app on your Mac or Command Prompt on your Windows PC. Locate the IP address of the affected iOS device by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and then selecting the connected network.

Step 3: In the Terminal / Command window type the following command: ssh root@[IP ADDRESS]. The IP address of the device from the previous step will need to be added. If private authentication keys haven’t already been established then permission will need to be given. TypeYes and then press enter before inputting the administrator password of alpine (or any other if you have changed it for some reason).

Step 4: The computer will now have root SSH access to the iPhone. Copy and paste the following script into Terminal and then press enter.

#!/bin/bash

chmod -x /usr/libexec/mobile_installation_proxy

killall -9 mobile_installation_proxy

rm /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.plist /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-045.csstore

launchctl stop com.apple.mobile.installd

launchctl start com.apple.mobile.installd

while [ ! -f /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.plist ];

do

sleep 1

done

while [ ! -f /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-045.csstore ];

do

sleep 1

done

sleep 10

chmod +x /usr/libexec/mobile_installation_proxy

sync

reboot

Step 5: When the code has been entered and ran, the script will run through its process and force the device to reboot. When everything has loaded back up, the stock Weather app should be as good as new.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1 On iPhone 5 Evasi0n Video Tutorial youtube

The iOS 6 / 6.1 untethered jailbreak has now become a reality, thanks to the hard work from those involved in the newly formed Evad3rs jailbreak team. The release of the new userland-based Evasi0n jailbreak tool means that users now have an extremely efficient way of making a complicated background process seem extremely simple.

Supported devices:

As mentioned in our previous post, Evasi0n supports all 20+ variants of iOS devices, including the likes of iPhone 5, on iOS 6.0 through iOS 6.1. Apple TV 3 though is not supported.

Supported firmware versions:

iOS 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1 are all supported.

How to fix error Evasi0n Jailbreak

The most common error people are experiencing right now is problems with Cydia. This involves either Cydia not being able to download tweaks / themes (packages) or Cydia not loading whatsoever. This is the most common error that we see when any new bigJailbreak is released and it is simply due to the amount of people trying to access Cydiaand download packages. There is unfortunately not solution to this problem besides waiting it out and trying again later. Generally within 24-48 hours Cydia will run at full steam again.

Evasi0n Doesn’t Recognize My Device

Evasi0n doesn’t recognize your device eh? Well, if this is the case it is likely because you did an over-the-air update to whatever firmware version you are running now. To fix this you will need to backup your device and then re-update to iOS 6.1 using iTunes. More information on this can be found in our official Evasi0n preparation guide. If, after doing this, Evasi0n still does not recognize your device, make sure it is supported, restart yourcomputer and switch USB ports.

Evasi0n Fails And Is Not Working

This is a pretty vague statement, but generally if Evasi0n is not functioning correctly it is because you have a Passcode on your device or iTunes opened during the Jailbreaking procedure. Ensure that you disable the Passcode lock on your device and DO NOT touch your computer during the Jailbreaking process. If you are still experiencing troubles doing a fresh restore to iOS 6.1 will likely fix your troubles.

Evasi0n Is Stuck At “Patching Kernal”

Pod2G sent out a tweeted earlier explaining that if your device is stuck displaying “patching kernel”, you can press Power plus Home for a long time to force a reboot. You can then try re-Jailbreaking your device keeping in mind the suggestions explained in the previous point if you run into troubles again.

Those are the most common errors I came across over Twitter and reading through comments on our website. If you have any other troubles let us know in the comments section and I will try my best to help you out.

Official Jailbreak iOS 6.1 Untethered With Evasi0n [Windows / Mac / Linux]

Team Evad3rs was established earlier this year, combines some of the jailbreak community’s most talented developers: Nikias Bassen (Pimskeks), Planetbeing (David Wang), France-based Pod2g (Cyril) and Los Angeles-based MuscleNerd; all known for producing reliable jailbreaks in the past. This team was assembled in order to develop a reliable untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 for post-A5 devices, including the iPhone 5, the iPad mini and the latest-generation iPad. This has now been achieved with the just-released userland jailbreak tool, known as Evasi0n.

Evasi0n

The following devices are supported by this tool:

  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPad 4
  • iPad 3
  • iPad 2
  • iPad mini
  • iPod touch 4
  • iPod touch 5

iOS firmware versions supported by Evasi0n:

  • iOS 6.0
  • iOS 6.0.1
  • iOS 6.0.2
  • iOS 6.1

Out of all new iOS devices, only the Apple TV 3 is not currently supported, although here’s to hope that a new tool will be developed soon that supports it.

This tool is quite user friendly, yet we remind users not to update their devices over the air (OTA): instead download the latest iOS 6.1 firmware and update to it via iTunes or the standalone ISPW – to take full advantage of all the new features of iOS 6.1 with added benefits of jailbreak.

It was quite a wait, but hopefully iPhone 5 users, as well as owners of previous iOS devices, will be able to customize their iOS setup to their liking, all thanks to Evasi0n jailbreak. We will be posting full how-to tutorials shortly, stay tuned for that!

iOS 6 was originally released in September of last year, featuring many improvements to Apple’s mobile operating system, including a radically revamped Maps app, Facebook integration built into most of its apps, along with improvements to Siri, Mail and other built-in apps. Given the release of iOS 6.1 on the horizon for quite a few months now, developers were put off developing a jailbreak for iOS 6 until 6.1 was finally released last Monday.

iOS 6 / 6.1 Jailbreak Tool Evasi0n For Windows And Mac Is Now Complete, Private Beta Testing Is Next

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that testing of the jailbreak will be limited to extremely tightly controlled conditions, with only members of the Evad3rs team and tried and trusted affiliates getting access to the files and source prior to official release. As pointed out in our original announcement post yesterday, all of the devices that are shown on the Evasi0n website have their calendar icons set to show the number 3. As things stand at the minute we should still be in line for a Super Bowl Sunday release.
