iOS 7.1.1 Jailbreak Shown To Work

Untethered is a term that refers to the fact the phone can be restarted and powered off and on as normal, with the jailbreak still functioning – clearly the best option although it’s harder to achieve. A tethered jailbreak, on the other hand, requires you to connect you iPhone or iPad to a PC or Mac every time your phone is restarted in order for the jailbreak to work.

The fact there’s a working untethered jailbreak is hugely significant as it means there’s hope that both Apple’s future operating system, iOS 8 and the iPhone 6 could see a compatible jailbreak launched soon after their release. It’s important to realize, though, that releasing the jailbreak now is actually not the best option. They work by exploiting vulnerabilities in the operating system and every time they release a jailbreak, Apple usually acts to block it quite quickly.

As such, given how hard it is to find new vulnerabilities, it makes very good sense to wait for the launch of the new iOS or Apple’s long-awaited iPhone 6 so new owners stand a chance of getting on the jailbreak bandwagon. Sadly, this also means that if you’re currently looking to jailbreak your Apple device, you’ll have a to wait a little longer as it’s unlikely the jailbreak will be released on iOS 7.

This meant anyone that wanted to keep their device jailbroken was forced to stay on iOS 6 and not upgrade to iOS 7. With Apple having since patched the latest Jailbreak, which was provided by evasi0n and worked up until iOS 7.0.6, jailbreakers were left wondering if and when the next jailbreak would be released.

Thankfully the ‘if’ part seems to have been answered in the last day or two as well-known hacker i0n1c posted a video in his YouTube channel showing what appears to be a fully-functional, untethered jailbreak working on an iPhone 5C. via

Untethered Jailbreak iOS 7.1 Status Update

Whether the Evad3rs team has any exploits up its sleeve, or plans to get to work on iOS 7.1, remains to be seen. With the software now halfway through its life-cycle, it may well be that any current progress is saved for the battle against iOS 8 later on this year, in which case, it’s even more essential that jailbreak fans remain on iOS 7.0.x for the time being.

The cat-and-mouse battle is ongoing, and now, it will be intriguing to see how the jailbreak scene responds. Thanks to Evad3rs, which includes seasoned jailbreakers like Pod2g and MuscleNerd, Cydia has been thriving, with many great tweaks, apps and themes having appeared over the past couple of months. We sincerely hope that this trend will continue, whether iOS 7.1 is breached or not, but by refraining from updating, you can ensure that you and your iOS device remains a part of the fun.
So, the take-home message here is this: do not update to iOS 7.1. If and when a jailbreak is made available, we will – as ever – let you guys know, and provide our usual tutorials and step-by-step guides on how you can go about jailbreaking your device.

Until then, though, sit tight, remain on your current firmware, and continue enjoying the many wondrous tweaks provided by the scene.

Update x1: Winocm posted a video on YouTube demonstrating iOS 7.1 untethered boot, which further adds fuel to the fact that the untethered iOS 7.1 jailbreak is on its way. But no time frame has been given for its release and there’s no word from the Evad3rs team either, the people behind the Evasi0n7 untethered jailbreak.

Update x2: iH8sn0w claimed on Twitter that his iPhone 4s is currently jailbroken on iOS 7.1. But details, as usual, are scarce, and it’s currently unknown when the actual jailbreak will be made available in the public domain.

An update has just been released to the Evasi0n7 jailbreak tool, bringing the latest version’s release number up to v1.0.7. Just over one week after the Evad3rs team announced version 1.0.6 to jailbreak iOS 7.0.6, today’s update offers bug fixes pertaining to bundled package lists, which, for some, weren’t automatically updating via Cydia. If you haven’t encountered this issue, then there’s no reason for alarm, although if you’re planning on jailbreaking your device in the immediate future, then Evasi0n7 version 1.0.7 is where it’s at. Further info, as well as links to our jailbreaking tutorials, can be seen after the fold.

Update x1: This release has also caught Saurik, the founder of Cydia, by surprise. He has clarified it on Twitter that the Cydia build included in version 1.0 of Evasi0n 7 isn’t official, and hence will be prone to bugs. Tweaks relying on Substrate will have issues with this early release of Evasi0n. This issue will be fixed in later versions of Evasi0n 7.

Update x2: Evasi0n 7 is also compatible to work with iOS 7.1 beta 2.

Jailbreak on iPhone 5s in life?

After communicating to be in possession of an exploit in iBoot jailbreak to ensure that life on devices with A5 processor and A5X, the odd couple formed by iH8sn0w and Winocm back to talk to itself. According to the last two tweets a hacker, it would seem that the A7 processor 64-bit versions of iPhone 5s is not so inviolable as it might initially seem!

iphone5sjailbreak

It would be the first time in several years, notably in 2010, when you could watch the final release of a jailbreak and intended to be carried out for life on the latest devices. The latest iPhone to still enjoy the benefit of this is the iPhone 4, followed closely by the iPhone 4S, according to iH8sn0w and Winocm, it would be unlocked to life thanks to an exploit in iBoot.

An exploit in iBoot is something very similar to a bootrom exploit, although it is not exactly this type of flaw: in any case, just like the bootrom, also vulnerabilities found in the Code of iBoot can not be corrected with an update from Apple iOS and, for this reason, allow you to perform the jailbreak for life, regardless of the version of the system installed on the device.

The news today – although not yet confirmed – is one of those that will delight the many fans of the jailbreak. Although there has been no official announcement, it seems that Winocm and iH8sn0w are working sull’iBoot devices with A7 processor (then iPhone 5s, Air iPad and iPad Mini with Retina Display) and maybe – even if it has not been said – on the processor A6 iPhone 5, iPhone 4 and iPad 5c. According to the tweet released by Winocm, the exploration of the iBoot of iPhone 5s would be “very interesting” and hackers have already come into possession of information is very important for the achievement of exploits to ensure the ability to perform the jailbreak for life.

A story 30 years Apple and one day in the making

Thirty years ago the Macintosh promised to put technology in the hands of the people.

On 24 January 1984 Apple introduced the Macintosh, with a promise: “that the power of technology, placed in the hands of everyone, would change the world.” On January 24, 2014, Apple has sent 15 crews from all over the world for show how this promise has become a reality.

To celebrate the birthday of the Mac were filmed video, rigorously with an iPhone 5s, all over the world in one day, from sunrise to Melbourne at night in Los Angeles, documenting people who do amazing things with Apple products .

Jailbreak for life iPhone 4s, iPad 2 / 3, iPad mini, iPod touch 5

iOS hacker iH8sn0w has discovered a way to untether jailbreak devices powered by the Apple A5(X) processor for life, which includes the iPhone 4s, iPod touch 5, the iPad 2 / 3 and iPad mini. Details are relatively scarce at this moment regarding the iBoot exploit, although if the exploits were ever bound together and released in the form of a jailbreak utility, those in ownership of either device would be able to enjoy an potentially indefinite, untethered jailbreak.

Even though the jailbreak scene is very much a here-and-now kind of pastime in that most enthusiasts are keen to find way to breach the latest versions, it’s always nice to see progress of any kind. And by the sounds of things, this is a pretty significant inroad. Taking to his Twitter feed,iH8sn0w posted A5 AES keys:

Jailbreak untethered iOS 7.0.5

To make evasi0n work with iOS 7.0.5 one way is to patch 11B511 into 11B601 in the binary. Ehmm btw… the patch are not hex bytes but simple ASCII iOS build numbers that need to be fixed.

If patching binaries isn’t exactly in your repertoire, there are multiple unofficial version of Evasi0n7 jailbreak tools already floating around the web which can jailbreak iOS 7.0.5. While they do work without any issue, it’s best to avoid these unofficial releases and wait for the official version of Evasi0n7. Now that it is confirmed to be working on 7.0.5, it’s more than likely that the Evad3rs team will come through with an updated version of Evasi0n right on cue which supports the latest iOS 7.0.5 release.

Evasi0n7-ios705

MuscleNerd’s tweets seems indicate it probably doesn’t, but its still best to avoid the 7.0.5 update for now.

With iOS 7.1 now a few betas in, it looks as though this will be the next major release across the board, with today’s offering probably being the last of the iOS 7.0.x family. As an advanced reminder, as with any new firmware update, do not go ahead and download / install iOS 7.1 if you wish for your device to continue running Cydia, for it will be patched against the tenacious Evasi0n7 jailbreak tool.

While Apple changelog says it’s only available on models sold in China, it looks like 7.0.5 update is also available on models sold in UK/Europe and Asia Pacific.
