Using TinyUmbrella (Recommended)
By Editing Hosts file
IMPORTANT: iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 3G, iPod Touch 4G, iPod Touch 3G, 2G users MUST have SHSH blobs saved for 4.0.1/4.0 firmware in order to downgrade from iOS 4.2.

Method : Using TinyUmbrella

Download TinyUmbrella from the link below:

If you’ve SHSH blobs saved on Saurik’s server via Cydia, download them into your computer first. To do that:
Connect your device, Fire up the TinyUmbrella and Check mark the Advanced Options.
Select your device, firmware (the one for which you’ve SHSH saved at Cydia; 4.1, 4.0.1 or older) and Cydia as Location.
Hit the save My SHSH button. that’s it.
Step 1 – DFU Mode
Put your iPhone into DFU Mode (How to: enter DFU Mode)

Run the TinyUmbrella
Hit the Display SHSH button to confirm that downloaded SHSH blobs has been cached by TinyUmbrella for 4.1, 4.0.1 or older. (If you already have them in your PC, drag and drop the SHSH blobs in the TinyUmbrella window then hit the display SHSH blobs button to confirm).
Then hit the Start TSS Server button.
Step 3 – Restoring The Firmware
Now Open the iTunes.

iTunes 10.1 Beta Released for Windows and Mac

iTunes 10.1 Beta has also been released today alongside iOS 4.2 Beta 2. Again, this release is currently meant for developers only, running both Windows and Mac. Except for the support of the new wireless printing feature in iOS, there is seems to be nothing new in this release.

This is a pre-release version of iTunes 10.1 beta to support testing of printing from your iOS app. Be sure to backup your iTunes content prior to installing iTunes 10.1 beta.

I am currently testing it out. Will report back if I find something new. In the meantime, if you have developer account, you can grab your copy of iTunes 10.1 Beta for Windows or Mac using the download link given below.

Track Your 3G Data Usage with Data Counter App for iPhone

For those of us who are on data-capped / tiered mobile internet plans, keeping track of how much data one is consuming is of great importance and convenience. And for those of us who are on jailbroken iPhones can use Data Counter to track how much data is being used.

Data Counter has a very simple UI and has equally simple yet useful features. You’ve got options to filter data consumption by date and by sent or received. You also get to see data consumption with a Data-Time graph that’ll stimulate your inner mathematician.

Data Counter is an cellular data counting app for user to keep track of their data usage within a period. Good for those who need to keep track of their data usage such that they don’t exceed their allocated data volume.

You will of course need to have a jailbroken iPhone to install it. Follow our step by step guide posted here to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with JailbreakMe if you haven’t already.

It works on both iOS 3 and 4. A trial version of the app can be downloaded from Cydia under Big Boss repository. Full version of the app costs $2.99.

How to enable Tethering iPhone 4

After the guide how to enable tethering iPhone 3G 3GS here comes an updated guide for iPhone 4 IOS4

Tether your iPhone 4 or iPhone running iOS4 via Wi-Fi. Share the iPhone 4 internet connection with your laptop or other Wi-Fi enabled devices, even your PC. Enjoy streaming media, web pages, email and everything else about the internet using your iPhone 4 or iOS4 enabled device and Wi-Fi tethering.

iOS4 Tethering: Options

With the release of the iOS4 and the iPhone 4 many users are anxious to enable Wi-Fi tethering. Wi-Fi tethering will enable users to share their iPhone internet connection with other devices wirelessly. iPhone 4 and iOS4 Wi-Fi tethering is quite easy to use and it is built into the iOS4 operating system.iOS4: Tethering

Many cellular networks such as AT&T require users to purchase a special tethering plan to use tethering with their iPhone. Tethering plans are often over priced and do not offer large amounts of data transfer
. Users with jailbroken iPhone’s can enjoy the luxury of Wi-Fi tethering using their cellular data network without purchasing a tethering package. Accomplishing unofficial tethering will require the use of special software that can be downloaded on a jailbroken iPhone.

Users of non-jailbroken iPhones who simply wish to utilize tethering thru a tethering plan on their cellular network can do so quite easily. This guide will cover the official Wi-Fi tethering method for the iPhone 4 and iOS4 and then afterwards it will explain how to tether with a jailbroken iPhone 4 or iOS4.

iOS4: Official Tethering

Tethering the iPhone 4 and iOS4 the official way will often require you to purchase a tethering package from your wireless provider. The procedure for purchasing a tethering package will vary based on provider. Not all users will need to purchase a tethering package. You can test to see if a tethering package is required by activating internet tethering. To activate Wi-Fi tethering for iOS4 follow these steps:

  1. Open settings. Tap the grey settings icon on the home screen of your iPhone.
  2. Choose network. Tap on “General”. Tap on “Network” to open the network settings section.
  3. Enable tethering. Enable Wi-Fi tethering in iOS4 by tapping “Set up Internet Tethering”. Choose Wi-Fi if you are prompted on which method to use for tethering.
  4. Purchase a tethering package. The iPhone may prompt you to enable internet tethering for your account. This will require you to contact your wireless provider and purchase a tethering package. Once you have purchased a tethering package repeat the steps in this guide. If you are not prompted to purchase a tethering package, skip this step.

iOS4 Tethering: Jaikbroken Method

Tethering with the iPhone 4 and iOS4 can be easily accomplished with the built-in tethering functionality. The built-in tethering function is both limited and requires a subscription to a tethering package with your wireless carrier. Jailbroken users can enjoy the use of tethering without a tethering package and without limitations using a great piece of software called “MyWi”.

  1. Open Cydia. Open Cydia by clicking the Cydia icon on your iPhone’s home screen.
  2. Search for MyWi. Tap “Search” on the navigation bar of Cydia. Type “MyWi” in the search box and tap search.
  3. Download MyWi. Tap MyWi to bring up the install option. Select “Install” in the upper right corner. Select “Confirm” in the
upper right corner to begin the download and installation.
  4. Launch MyWi. Tap the MyWi icon on the home screen of your iPhone to launch MyWi.
  5. Enable Tethering. Tap the slide next to “Enable Tethering” to turn tethering on in iOS4 or on the iPhone 4. Set the Wi-Fi name to anything you would like. You may also set security when using Wi-Fi tethering for iOS4 and iPhone 4 with MyFi.

Raising the bar: Apple announces signal bar extender for iPhone

Cupertino, CA — iPhone signal bars still leave you wanting? Super-size them. Thanks to Apple’s new MegaBars accessory, puny signal bars are a thing of the past.

Like the bigger bars in Apple’s recent software fix, MegaBars has no actual effect on iPhone reception. However, those taller/beefier signal bars will make you brim with new confidence on every call.

“No smartphone available today offers bigger signal bars,” says Apple product manager, Kevin Solstice. “These bars are bigger than Droid X, BlackBerry Bold and Evo 4G combined.”

A perfect match for iPhone 4?s advanced design, MegaBars neatly plugs into your iPhone’s earphone jack. Its high-res Micro-Retina display is visible from 20 feet — so your signal bars will not only calm your personal reception anxieties, they’ll make an impression on friends and colleagues.

MegaBars offers two viewing options. Standard Mode displays five bars at 6.8x normal size. Enhanced Mode offers six bars instead of five. iPhone automatically recalculates signal strength to display it accurately on a six-bar scale.

While Android can’t currently compete with MegaBars, don’t count Google out just yet. Sources tell us that Android 2.3 will in fact be built on a 7-signal-bar foundation — no external devices required.

Apple Introduces the iPod Ninja

A little more than a week after Apple CEO Steve Jobs was reportedly prevented from taking Ninja stars out of Japan, the company has unveiled the iPod ninja, according to Scoopertino.

Today Apple announced the “dangerously cool” iPod ninja, the last of the new 2010 iPod family. This razor-thin iPod combines the fun of entertainment with the thrill of lethal weaponry. And it’s super-easy to buy.

“iPod ninja fits into that sweet spot between the iPod touch and a small handgun,” says Apple spokesperson Ted Wetmore. “It gives you peace of mind. You can either enjoy your music on the device — or you can fling it at anyone who looks at you funny. With a little practice, you can take down a foe at 50 feet.”

However, there is a dark side to the new iPod. As iPod ninja sales boom, some blogs are already reporting a “death grip” problem even worse than the one that plagued iPhone 4. If you hold iPod ninja in a certain way, you may require immediate medical care.

How to manually set your iPhone, iPad carrier APN using the iPhone Configuration Utility

With the iPhone Configuration Utility you can set your iPad or iPhone carrier’s APN (access point name) manually in case your 3G networking isn’t working properly, which can sometimes happen for developers running beta versions of iOS. It’s a workaround to be sure, but if you need your device on-network for testing and can’t wait for newer betas, sometimes a work around is just what you need.

Follow on after the break for step-by-step instructions.

  • If you haven’t already, download, install, and run the iPhone Configuration Utility from Apple for Windows or Mac OS X.

  • Go to Configuration Profiles under Library in the sidebar and then hit New in the toolbar.

Under General (Mandatory) enter a name for the profile you’re creating, and a unique identifier.

  • Google your carrier’s APN settings. Take note of them.
  • Scroll all the way to the bottom and, under Advanced, fill in your carrier’s APN info.
    • Plug in your iPad or iPhone and then select it in the sidebar under Devices.
    • Pick your profile and hit Install.
    • Approve the installation on your iPhone or iPad.

Enjoy functional 3G networking!
