Jailbreak iOS 6 GM Tethered On A4-Based Devices With Redsn0w 0.9.13dev4

It is important to note that this tethered jailbreak wont install Cydia yet. It will only give you root access which will enable you to install the custom packages of your choice using SSH. So yes, until and unless you are a advanced user or a developer, it is better to stay away from this jailbreak until Cydia is fully compatible to work with iOS 6, we will obviously let you know whenever it is.

For those of you who are interested, follow the following simple instructions to jailbreak your device:

1. Download iOS 6 GM and restore your device to it via the latest version of iTunes.

2. Download Redsn0w 0.9.13dev4 from the download links given below.

3. Start Redsn0w, select ‘Extras‘ from the main interface followed by the ‘Select IPSW‘ option. Point it to iOS 6 GM firmware.

4. Now from the main screen, select ‘Jailbreak” option to start the process. Redsn0w will present you with onscreen instructions on how to enter your device into DFU mode. Follow the steps carefully. Once the device is in DFU mode, the jailbreaking procedure will automatically start. Once done, your device will be rebooted into a jailbroken state.

Since this is a tethered jailbreak, you will need to enter tethered boot mode using Redsn0w every time your device restarts. To do this, start Redsn0w, click on the “Extras” button on screen and then simply click on “Just Boot” option and follow the on-screen instructions.

With every new major release of their mobile OS, Apple seem to be implementing features that have previously only been found through releases on the jailbroken Cydia store. With iOS 6 representing one of the largest changes to the software that we have seen in recent times, it will be extremely interesting to see what popular Cydia packages have been sherlocked by the release but even more interesting to see what packages and enhancements the jailbreak development community come up with for iOS 6.

A4 Jailbreak tethered on iOS 5.1 Sn0wbreeze 2.9.2 (windows)

Also as this is a tethered jailbreak, your iOS device will need to be plugged in to your computer every time it is powered on, in order to boot into a jailbroken state. This can be done using Sn0wbreeze’s built-in iBooty utility.

Redsn0w users (for both Windows and Mac) can also create custom firmwares without the updated basebands. Custom firmwares are handy for iPhone users who rely on carrier unlocks such as Ultrasn0w or GEVEY SIM. It is important to note that current version of Ultrasn0w does not support iOS 5.1. The iPhone Dev-Team though has promised to update it in near future, bringing support for iPhone 4 and 3GS users running iOS 5.1 on older basebands.

How to install Siri On iPhone 4, 3GS, iPad, And iPod touch

Siri (Speech Interpretation and Recognition Interface) (pronounced /?s?ri/) is an intelligent personal assistant and knowledge navigator which works as an application for Apple’s iOS. The application uses a natural language user interface to answer questions, make recommendations, and perform actions by delegating requests to a set of web services. Apple claims that the software adapts to the user’s individual preferences over time and personalizes results, and performing tasks such as finding recommendations for nearby restaurants, or getting directions.
Siri was originally introduced as an iOS application available in the App Store by Siri Inc. Siri Inc. was acquired by Apple on April 28, 2010.[3] Siri Inc. had announced that their software would be available for BlackBerry and for Android-powered phones, but all development efforts for non-Apple platforms were cancelled after the acquisition by Apple.
Siri is now an integral part of iOS 5, and available only on the iPhone 4S, launched on October 4, 2011.Despite this, hackers were able to adapt Siri in prior iPhones. On November 8, 2011, Apple publicly announced that it had no plans to support Siri on any of its older devices.
The Siri software is deeply embedded throughout iOS that it is able to interact with a number of native applications, offering an enhanced user experience. One of the main gripes from a consumer point of view is that Siri is only officially made available by Apple for those who purchase an iPhone 4S. At first glance, it would seem that Siri required the more powerful processing power of the A5 processor, but considering Siri has been made available on older generation devices by the jailbreak community and seems to function without issue, that assumption would seem to be negated.

Probably the most popular option for older generation Siri access is the Spire tweak from Cydia, developed by Grant Paul who is better known for his Zephyr and Infini series of extensions for jailbroken devices. The issue with Spire is that it only provides the Siri GUI, and relies 100% on a functioning proxy server and data from a registered iPhone 4S to operate, which is something that has been difficult to come by due to Apple shutting down the access provided by certain 4S devices as it is generating thousands of requests.

A team known as i4Siri has been working for quite some time in an attempt to bring a functioning and reliable answer to this problem, and looking at their most recent blog post, it seems that they believe they have the solution, making the i4Siri servers available to the public, and it does not require you to have a registered iPhone 4S. After months of data analysis, testing and modifying based on findings, the servers are now believed to be stable and are being offered to the masses for free. Limitations on the API access will be placed, but the team are planning on adding extensive management tools which let users see things like usage stats, most used sayings and a number of other advanced options.

Step 1: Open up Cydia and install the ‘Spire‘ tweak, developed by chpwn.

Step 2: After installation, open up the device Settings application and head to ‘General >> Siri‘ and make sure the toggle is set to ‘On‘.

Step 3: Head back to the root of the Settings menu and select ‘Spire‘.

Step 4: In the Spire settings menu, populate the proxy URL field with‘https://i4sirifree.mooo.com/’.

Step 5: Open up Mobile Safari and head to ‘http://i4siri.com/installcertificate.html

Step 6: Install the certificate. Activate Siri and make a request.

Fix Error 11, 1013, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, while restoring to custom or update IOS 5.1

When trying to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a newer firmware to take advantage of an untethered jailbreak, you might have encountered various problems, such as error message 11, 1013, 1600, 1601, 1602, 1603, 1604, etc. These errors might tell you that your device is not eligible for upgrade, or that it’s not eligible for restore, or even that it isn’t eligible for the requested build.

this device isn’t eligible for the requested build

There are fairly common errors, and thankfully there is an easy fix. All it takes in a few seconds of your time.

There are actually two ways to fix these types of error messages. The easy way, and the long way. We’re going to have a quick look at both.

The easy way: TinyUmbrella

Download TinyUmbrella
• Launch TinyUmbrella and go to the “Advanced” tab
• Uncheck the box that says “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit (If you need a clean restore from Apple uncheck this box)”
• Close TinyUmbrella

The hard way: editing files manually – On Mac:

• Make sure you are logged in as administrator
• Open Finder
• Hold down COMMAND + SHIFT keys and press ‘G’
• Enter “/private/etc/” in the field and press “Go”
• Find “hosts” file in the directory
• Drag the file to your desktop
• Open it in text editor
• Remove the line that has gs.apple.com entirely or put a # at the beginning of it to comment it out
• Save the file
• Drag it back to the /private/etc/ folder
• Enter your username and password to authenticate

On Windows:

• Locate the hosts file in one of the following directories:
• Windows 95/98/Me c:\windows\hosts
• Windows NT/2000/XP Pro c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
• Windows XP, Vista, 7 c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
• Right click on it and choose “Open With…” then click on “Notepad”
• Remove the line that has gs.apple.com completely and save the file
• Once this is done, proceed to restore or update your iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad. You shouldn’t have any problems going forward

Jailbreak iOS 5.1 For iPhone, iPad, iPod touch (A4 Devices) Using Redsn0w 0.9.10b6

The iPhone Dev-Team – reliably as per usual – have updated its Redsn0w jailbreak tool, allowing those using the latest iOS 5.1 to set their devices free. It works for all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices except, of course, the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2.

Additionally, as you may already be aware, the jailbreak is tethered, meaning you will need to connect your device to a computer to boot tethered each time it is switched off for whatever reason. The ‘SemiTether’ patch eases the tethered scenario by allowing devices to boot without connecting to a PC or Mac, although features are extremely limited, thus it will have to be booted tethered in order to function at optimum level once more.

Of course, it’s not as exciting as the fully-untethered jailbreak with all the bells and whistles; but we reckon that it’s better than no jailbreak at all!

As usual, we’ve got the tutorial to help you in your quest to jailbreak your iOS 5.1 device.

Official: Apple iPad 3 event slated for March 7th in San Francisco

Yes, it’s finally, really happened. We just received our invite for Apple’s next big event — almost certainly where the announcement of the iPad 3 (or iPad HD, or some other name no one has guessed yet) will take place. The event is being held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco at 10AM PST, on Wednesday, March 7th, and the Verge team will be there covering the news live as it happens. Until then, let your imagination run wild about the next iteration of the world’s most popular tablet!

As you can see in the image above, that’s no regular iPad display. It appears to be a higher resolution than the iPad or iPad 2. Also, the casing of the product pictured looks darker than current iPad models. It’s hard to say if that’s a trick of lighting or not.

P.S. Yes, of course we’re upset about our magical February 29th leap day theory not working out.

Are constructed as iPhone and iPad (Foxconn’s factories)

Reporter Bill Weir was on location at Foxconn’s mega-plant in Chengdu, China, reporting on the company that assembles components not only for Apple, but a number of other electronics makers as well. But it’s Apple, which is now worth more than Microsoft and Google combined, that has come under fire recently for its partnership with Foxconn.

In particular, a story from The New York Times suggested that Apple has ignored alleged labor abuses at Foxconn because the current system is favorable to the company. Those claims prompted Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook to send an e-mail to employees declaring the anonymous criticisms to be “patently false.”

In ABC’s video preview (included below), Weir revealed that it was Apple itself who invited Nightline to take a closer look inside its supply chain and Foxconn’s facilities.

“We will show you how your iPad, your iPhone, your MacBook is made, and we will meet the people who made them,” he said. “We’ll show you how these folks come on buses, sometimes for days, to travel to the Foxconn gates, desperate for a chance to wipe a screen or solder a chip for 10 hours a day at less than $1.50 an hour.”
