iOS 6 / 6.1 Jailbreak Tool Evasi0n For Windows And Mac Is Now Complete, Private Beta Testing Is Next

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that testing of the jailbreak will be limited to extremely tightly controlled conditions, with only members of the Evad3rs team and tried and trusted affiliates getting access to the files and source prior to official release. As pointed out in our original announcement post yesterday, all of the devices that are shown on the Evasi0n website have their calendar icons set to show the number 3. As things stand at the minute we should still be in line for a Super Bowl Sunday release.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1 On iPhone 5 Confirmed

iOS 6.1 appears to be vulnerable to the exploits we are planning on using. :)

Before we could dare ask when this long-awaited untether would surface, MuscleNerd waded in, adding:

Hey, did everyone know the Super Bowl is this Sunday? What will you be doing? /cc @evad3rs

While it’s not absolute confirmation, it seems more than just a subtle hint that the untethered jailbreak could be ready as early as Sunday.

It’s been a long, winding road to here – on the cusp of an untethered jailbreak release, and for a while, it was looking as though we may not even see a jailbreak at all. With every new release of iOS, Apple tightens security, and naturally, shuts many doors previously exploited by the jailbreak Gods.

Now, with some of the most talented heads in the game having collaborated to a successful outcome, it’s almost as though the jailbreak was never in doubt, and it would certainly cap off a great Super Bowl Sunday if we were treated also to an untether.

The jailbreakers like to be cryptic, and often drop hints merely to throw us off, so it’s worth not getting too ahead of ourselves at this point. Moreover, Planetbeing also talks of two proof of concepts in need of merging and polishing, and thus the jailbreak “will not be ready to release until that [merging, polishing] and testing” has taken place.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1 On Pre-A5 iPhone And iPod touch

Apple released the final version of iOS 6.1 to the public:

possible with a tethered jailbreak using the latest version of Redsn0w.

To get started, simply follow the steps below:

How-to jailbreak iOS 6.1:

1- Download iOS 6.1 and the original iOS 6.0 [Download iOS 6 from here], which is required for this jailbreak to work.

2- Download Redsn0w 0.9.15b3 for Mac or for Windows.

3- Head on over to Extras > Select IPSW and select the iOS 6.0 IPSW. Allow a few seconds until Redsn0w recognizes the file.

Note: The reason why we need iOS 6.0 for this to work on 6.1 is because Redsn0w hasn’t been updated to officially work with iOS 6.1 yet.

4- Now, simply click on “Jailbreak” from Redsn0w’s main screen. On the next screen, click “Next” and select “Cydia”. You then need to boot your device in DFU mode and follow the on-screen instructions.

Redsn0w will now go on to do its work and jailbreak your device using the Limera1n exploit. Cydia will then be installed. After the jailbreak is completed, simply select the “Autoboot this device when it connects in DFU mode” option. If you’ve gone this far, your device is now jailbroken!

How-to boot in tethered mode:

This is a tethered jailbreak, therefore your device needs to be booted into a jailbroken state on every reboot. In order to do this, you simply connect it to a computer running Redsn0w, navigate to “Extras” and select “Just Boot”. Since most of us rarely shut down our devices completely, you likely won’t need to do this often, unless there is a power shortage.

Cydia running on iOS 6.1:

As mentioned earlier. a full-fledged untethered jailbreak is ready, and will likely be released soon after dev-teams have completed all their necessary tests. The said upcoming jailbreak will also work on almost all of the newer devices. We will be sure to keep you posted on this!

Jailbreak Untethered For iPhone 5 IOS 6.0.1

According to a new tweet by Planetbeing, last Friday was spent with Pod2g, another well-known developer, finally ironing out a working untethered jailbreak for iOS 6:

Made some nice progress today with @pod2g. I think I’ll try to reward myself with a nap. :)

This morning, Pod2g, who was previously busy with setting up his own company called 2G Lab, tweeted this in response to Planetbeing’s tweet, confirming that he too is now actively involved in making untethered jailbreak for iOS 6:

@planetbeing oh yeah! 2 new vulnerabilities in a day, chance was with us. But we still miss that initial code execution for a public jb :/

The tweets from today suggests that all they are missing now is an initial code execution for a public jailbreak. Jailbreaking is a cat-and-mouse game, and over the last few years it has become increasingly difficult to perform, especially on newer devices. Pod2g’s active involvement now in developing iOS 6 jailbreak with Planetbeing and others is a great news for the community.

Dream JB’s Untethered iOS 6.0.1 Jailbreak is a Fake

Many owners of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch are dreaming of the day when the untethered iOS 6 jailbreak is finally available. However with iteration of the iOS, Apple is making it harder for the jailbreak community to come up with the most up-to-date solution. This is the main reason why it takes many months before a solid untethered jailbreak solution is made available for public consumption. Jailbreaking the iOS is not exactly something that just about anyone can do. That is why if someone unheard of says that he has cracked the code, one can’t help but become a skeptic. Yesterday, someone that goes by the name Dream Jailbreak claimed that he has the untethered iOS 6 jailbreak.

Some guy named Dream Jailbreak has pulled a rather gutsy move announcing that he has finally cracked iOS 6 and he will be releasing it to the world on December 22nd. As expected, the announcement was met with much skepticism especially by prominent jailbreak personalities like MuscleNerd, iH8sn0w, and i0n1c just to name a few. With the objective to satisfy the believers and silence the skeptics, Dream Jailbreak announced that he will be uploading a video that will outline the process of the new untethered iOS 6 jailbreak. And so he did upload the video, and that is when everything started to make sense. Dream Jailbreak’s untethered iOS 6 jailbreak is a fake, as expected.
