Jailbreak iOS 6.1 On iPhone 5 Confirmed

iOS 6.1 appears to be vulnerable to the exploits we are planning on using. :)

Before we could dare ask when this long-awaited untether would surface, MuscleNerd waded in, adding:

Hey, did everyone know the Super Bowl is this Sunday? What will you be doing? /cc @evad3rs

While it’s not absolute confirmation, it seems more than just a subtle hint that the untethered jailbreak could be ready as early as Sunday.

It’s been a long, winding road to here – on the cusp of an untethered jailbreak release, and for a while, it was looking as though we may not even see a jailbreak at all. With every new release of iOS, Apple tightens security, and naturally, shuts many doors previously exploited by the jailbreak Gods.

Now, with some of the most talented heads in the game having collaborated to a successful outcome, it’s almost as though the jailbreak was never in doubt, and it would certainly cap off a great Super Bowl Sunday if we were treated also to an untether.

The jailbreakers like to be cryptic, and often drop hints merely to throw us off, so it’s worth not getting too ahead of ourselves at this point. Moreover, Planetbeing also talks of two proof of concepts in need of merging and polishing, and thus the jailbreak “will not be ready to release until that [merging, polishing] and testing” has taken place.

iOS 6.1.1 beta issued to developers Features

iOS 6.1.1 Features
Whilst, unlike previous iOS betas, the new iOS 6.1.1 release does not appear to have an expiry date, the software refresh is set to bring a number updates and new features to Apple’s collection of iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices.

Focussing largely on improvements to the still issue hit iOS 6 Maps software, the new iOS 6.1.1 update is set to include “improved pronunciation of roads during turn-by-turn navigation.”

Continuing on the maps and navigation theme, further iOS 6.1.1 updates will see the latest iteration of Apple’s mobile OS offer “optimised direction to more strongly prefer highways over narrower roads,” as well as “indicating upcoming toll roads during turn-by-turn navigation.”

With a number of these updates to affect the Japanese markets, the latest iOS 6.1.1. update shows Apple’s growing desire to capitalise on emerging Asian markets, a push that has been rumoured to see Apple prepping a cheaper iPhone handset for the Chinese sector.

How To Fix Weather App After Evasi0n Jailbreak

iphone5-weather

Step 1: The fix involves running a script directly on the device itself to force a rebuild of the corrupt file. Launch Cydia, navigate to the Search section then find and install the OpenSSH package.

Step 2: When the OpenSSH package is installed, exit Cydia and load the Terminal app on your Mac or Command Prompt on your Windows PC. Locate the IP address of the affected iOS device by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and then selecting the connected network.

Step 3: In the Terminal / Command window type the following command: ssh root@[IP ADDRESS]. The IP address of the device from the previous step will need to be added. If private authentication keys haven’t already been established then permission will need to be given. TypeYes and then press enter before inputting the administrator password of alpine (or any other if you have changed it for some reason).

Step 4: The computer will now have root SSH access to the iPhone. Copy and paste the following script into Terminal and then press enter.

#!/bin/bash

chmod -x /usr/libexec/mobile_installation_proxy

killall -9 mobile_installation_proxy

rm /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.plist /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-045.csstore

launchctl stop com.apple.mobile.installd

launchctl start com.apple.mobile.installd

while [ ! -f /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installation.plist ];

do

sleep 1

done

while [ ! -f /var/mobile/Library/Caches/com.apple.LaunchServices-045.csstore ];

do

sleep 1

done

sleep 10

chmod +x /usr/libexec/mobile_installation_proxy

sync

reboot

Step 5: When the code has been entered and ran, the script will run through its process and force the device to reboot. When everything has loaded back up, the stock Weather app should be as good as new.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1 On iPhone 5 Evasi0n Video Tutorial youtube

The iOS 6 / 6.1 untethered jailbreak has now become a reality, thanks to the hard work from those involved in the newly formed Evad3rs jailbreak team. The release of the new userland-based Evasi0n jailbreak tool means that users now have an extremely efficient way of making a complicated background process seem extremely simple.

Supported devices:

As mentioned in our previous post, Evasi0n supports all 20+ variants of iOS devices, including the likes of iPhone 5, on iOS 6.0 through iOS 6.1. Apple TV 3 though is not supported.

Supported firmware versions:

iOS 6.0, 6.0.1, 6.0.2, 6.1 are all supported.

How to fix error Evasi0n Jailbreak

The most common error people are experiencing right now is problems with Cydia. This involves either Cydia not being able to download tweaks / themes (packages) or Cydia not loading whatsoever. This is the most common error that we see when any new bigJailbreak is released and it is simply due to the amount of people trying to access Cydiaand download packages. There is unfortunately not solution to this problem besides waiting it out and trying again later. Generally within 24-48 hours Cydia will run at full steam again.

Evasi0n Doesn’t Recognize My Device

Evasi0n doesn’t recognize your device eh? Well, if this is the case it is likely because you did an over-the-air update to whatever firmware version you are running now. To fix this you will need to backup your device and then re-update to iOS 6.1 using iTunes. More information on this can be found in our official Evasi0n preparation guide. If, after doing this, Evasi0n still does not recognize your device, make sure it is supported, restart yourcomputer and switch USB ports.

Evasi0n Fails And Is Not Working

This is a pretty vague statement, but generally if Evasi0n is not functioning correctly it is because you have a Passcode on your device or iTunes opened during the Jailbreaking procedure. Ensure that you disable the Passcode lock on your device and DO NOT touch your computer during the Jailbreaking process. If you are still experiencing troubles doing a fresh restore to iOS 6.1 will likely fix your troubles.

Evasi0n Is Stuck At “Patching Kernal”

Pod2G sent out a tweeted earlier explaining that if your device is stuck displaying “patching kernel”, you can press Power plus Home for a long time to force a reboot. You can then try re-Jailbreaking your device keeping in mind the suggestions explained in the previous point if you run into troubles again.

Those are the most common errors I came across over Twitter and reading through comments on our website. If you have any other troubles let us know in the comments section and I will try my best to help you out.

Official Jailbreak iOS 6.1 Untethered With Evasi0n [Windows / Mac / Linux]

Team Evad3rs was established earlier this year, combines some of the jailbreak community’s most talented developers: Nikias Bassen (Pimskeks), Planetbeing (David Wang), France-based Pod2g (Cyril) and Los Angeles-based MuscleNerd; all known for producing reliable jailbreaks in the past. This team was assembled in order to develop a reliable untethered jailbreak for iOS 6 for post-A5 devices, including the iPhone 5, the iPad mini and the latest-generation iPad. This has now been achieved with the just-released userland jailbreak tool, known as Evasi0n.

Evasi0n

The following devices are supported by this tool:

  • iPhone 5
  • iPhone 4S
  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPad 4
  • iPad 3
  • iPad 2
  • iPad mini
  • iPod touch 4
  • iPod touch 5

iOS firmware versions supported by Evasi0n:

  • iOS 6.0
  • iOS 6.0.1
  • iOS 6.0.2
  • iOS 6.1

Out of all new iOS devices, only the Apple TV 3 is not currently supported, although here’s to hope that a new tool will be developed soon that supports it.

This tool is quite user friendly, yet we remind users not to update their devices over the air (OTA): instead download the latest iOS 6.1 firmware and update to it via iTunes or the standalone ISPW – to take full advantage of all the new features of iOS 6.1 with added benefits of jailbreak.

It was quite a wait, but hopefully iPhone 5 users, as well as owners of previous iOS devices, will be able to customize their iOS setup to their liking, all thanks to Evasi0n jailbreak. We will be posting full how-to tutorials shortly, stay tuned for that!

iOS 6 was originally released in September of last year, featuring many improvements to Apple’s mobile operating system, including a radically revamped Maps app, Facebook integration built into most of its apps, along with improvements to Siri, Mail and other built-in apps. Given the release of iOS 6.1 on the horizon for quite a few months now, developers were put off developing a jailbreak for iOS 6 until 6.1 was finally released last Monday.

iOS 6 / 6.1 Jailbreak Tool Evasi0n For Windows And Mac Is Now Complete, Private Beta Testing Is Next

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that testing of the jailbreak will be limited to extremely tightly controlled conditions, with only members of the Evad3rs team and tried and trusted affiliates getting access to the files and source prior to official release. As pointed out in our original announcement post yesterday, all of the devices that are shown on the Evasi0n website have their calendar icons set to show the number 3. As things stand at the minute we should still be in line for a Super Bowl Sunday release.

Jailbreak iOS 6.1 On Pre-A5 iPhone And iPod touch

Apple released the final version of iOS 6.1 to the public:

possible with a tethered jailbreak using the latest version of Redsn0w.

To get started, simply follow the steps below:

How-to jailbreak iOS 6.1:

1- Download iOS 6.1 and the original iOS 6.0 [Download iOS 6 from here], which is required for this jailbreak to work.

2- Download Redsn0w 0.9.15b3 for Mac or for Windows.

3- Head on over to Extras > Select IPSW and select the iOS 6.0 IPSW. Allow a few seconds until Redsn0w recognizes the file.

Note: The reason why we need iOS 6.0 for this to work on 6.1 is because Redsn0w hasn’t been updated to officially work with iOS 6.1 yet.

4- Now, simply click on “Jailbreak” from Redsn0w’s main screen. On the next screen, click “Next” and select “Cydia”. You then need to boot your device in DFU mode and follow the on-screen instructions.

Redsn0w will now go on to do its work and jailbreak your device using the Limera1n exploit. Cydia will then be installed. After the jailbreak is completed, simply select the “Autoboot this device when it connects in DFU mode” option. If you’ve gone this far, your device is now jailbroken!

How-to boot in tethered mode:

This is a tethered jailbreak, therefore your device needs to be booted into a jailbroken state on every reboot. In order to do this, you simply connect it to a computer running Redsn0w, navigate to “Extras” and select “Just Boot”. Since most of us rarely shut down our devices completely, you likely won’t need to do this often, unless there is a power shortage.

Cydia running on iOS 6.1:

As mentioned earlier. a full-fledged untethered jailbreak is ready, and will likely be released soon after dev-teams have completed all their necessary tests. The said upcoming jailbreak will also work on almost all of the newer devices. We will be sure to keep you posted on this!

Evasi0n Jailbreak Will Be Available For Download

Evasi0n Jailbreak  Available For Download

Release date of the upcoming iOS 6.x untethered jailbreak has just been confirmed by the official Twitter account of the team Evad3rs. It’s coming on Monday, February 4, 2013.

@Evad3rs: Final count down toward tomorrow’s release has begun!

Planetbeing, who is a member of team Evad3rs, also confirmed the release date:

@Planetbeing: Yes, tomorrow is a concrete release date. It’s also the only release date we’ve ever given.

evasi0n5

This jailbreak has been awaited for months, especially among iPhone 5 users who are, so far, absolutely unable to modify the software on their devices. This is the first time that an untethered jailbreak will be available for iOS 6.x, meaning that those users will soon be able to ditch the aging iOS 5 for the newest version of Apple’s mobile operating system.

Create Your Own iPhone Jailbreak Tweaks The Easy Way Using Flex For iOS

As we wait patiently to see what developers have in store for us when the new untethered jailbreak lands, but in the meantime, we are seeing the release of one of the most exciting tweaks of recent times, called Flex.

Flex lets you exercise the limits of your device by enabling you to make your own jailbreak tweaks. The Flex Community cloud features tweaks shared by Flex users, and lets you download and install these tweaks instantly.

Flex1

Pretty self explanatory, and definitely a great idea that will appeal to those users who have been waiting to see if someone will make a package that covers their own particular needs. Before we get carried away; it is worth noting that Flex doesn’t allow us to create overly elaborate tweaks for our devices, but rather concentrates on smaller system changes which makes operation of iOS a little different or more intuitive.

Flex operates as a standalone application more rather than a minor tweak, and even those who just want to see and download other users’ creations can access the shared packages directly through the application. No programming knowledge is needed to make system tweaks from within Flex, so it definitely doesn’t require any advanced Xcode or Objective-C knowledge to make the best use of it.

Flex2

It’s definitely one of the more unique offerings on the Cydia platform, and we think thousands of new devices that are about to enter the world of jailbreaking will definitely benefit from experimenting with Flex.

Flex is available as a $3.99 download from the BigBoss repo and is compatible with all iPhones and iPods running iOS 5.X and 6.X.

Jailbreak For iOS 6 / 6.1 Officially Enters Private Beta Testing Stage

Pod2g also took to his Twitter account to confirm that the team is now really close to release:

Pod2g: Planetbeing latests posts on reddit regarding that subject. They are really interesting. We’re close to the release! Stay tuned!

The jailbreak, as we have already learned, is compatible with all versions of iOS 6 released hitherto, and supports every device on which the latest release of Apple’s firmware can run. So, once the tool is ready and released to the anxious public, every iPhone from the 3GS upwards, every iPad from the iPad 2, and the fourth and fifth-gen iPod touch will all be jailbreakable – provided they are running some variety of iOS 6.

There are a couple of reasons why this jailbreak has generated quite a bit more hype than other recent jailbreaks, notably the fact that it has taken quite a while following the September release of iOS 6. For a while, it was looking as though we may never see a jailbreak for iOS 6, but credit to the veterans of the jailbreak scene – they have come through and delivered the goods once more.

The untethered nature of the jailbreak means one will not have to connect to a computer every time a device is rebooted or turned off, which makes this jailbreak all the more appealing.

As time has progressed, the tools released for purpose of jailbreaking have become more elegant and user-friendly, and although we anticipate more of the same this time around, we’ll have a relevant guide on hand to help you along the way.
