My Website: I have a live e commerce website using Magento ver. 1.3.2.4. Currently , a flat shipping rate is being used for all locations. Also, previously, I have disabled the use of zip code in the shipping module because it is not relevant in my country.Magento uses zip code for shipping but we do not in my country so we had disabled it.Now we need a way around that.
The Task
I want to customize the shipping on my website to meet localization requirements (that is, local states and towns in my country)as I intend to now charge different amounts for different locations within the country (and by different order quatity) .
The customer should be able to choose the “State of residence “(compulsory) in a drop-down when giving own address initially when about to register and later as “ship to address” when placing an order.
The shipping module should allow us to input shipping charge per location vs number of items from back-end.
The website is life so we have to manage the change not to affect customers. The successful programmer will have a plan to do the required changes without affecting customer experience.Detailed documentation of scripts and changes will also be provided.
