formatting phone number from AD into an email signature through O365

trying to figure out if it is possible to using html/css/js to format the phone number attribute (%%PhoneNumber%%) in an email signature that is being used in O365. i know its possible to change the format of the phone # in AD to xxx xxx xxxx but am wondering if there is another way to do this in the actual html code for the signature.
