Learning to drive is often a difficult and costly process.
But, once you have your licence, it will give you the freedom of driving from A
to B without relying on public transport. If you are looking into taking driving
lessons, here is what you should know before you get started, with help from East London Driving School.
Who is Allowed to Teach Me to Drive?
You don’t necessarily need to be taught by a driving instructor on how to drive. If you are on a budget, you can be taught by anyone who has a full driving licence for at least 3 years and is older than 21. But, they may teach you bad habits which are hard to “unlearn”, so we would recommend you enlist the services of a qualified and approved driving instructor from the start.
Before you learn to drive, you must be in possession of a valid provisional driving licence. You can apply for a provisional licence from the age of 15 years and 9 months. It is important to note that you can only drive unsupervised when you are 17 years of age and fully qualified, and not before. Otherwise, you can be in a lot of trouble, especially if you cause an accident.
How Many Driving Lessons Do I Need to Take?
There are no minimum number of lessons that you need to take before you sit a driving test. We would recommend that you only arrange a test when you and your instructor are confident that you will pass. There is no point jumping the gun and paying the test fee, only to fail. This will waste money and time that can be better spent preparing you for the test. We would recommend that you download a progress form to allow you and your instructor to track your progress. This allows you to see when you are ready to sit the test.
What is the Cost of the Driving
Test?
The cost of the UK driving
test depends on when you take it. For a car on a week day, the fee as of 2019
is £62. For weekends, evenings and bank holidays, this fee is £75. For those
who are re-sitting their test due to being disqualified, the fee is £124 for
weekdays and £150 for evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays.
