Welcome back to our International Artist Series.
Today
we’re catching up with five incredible artists from Venezuela, a country on the northern coast of South America. I asked each artist how
their country and culture inspired their work, and they delivered great
responses.
Holman Pérez
Holman is a designer and art director from Caracas, Venezuela. His work features incredible typographic illustrations inspired by Venezuela.

Violenzuela en Isometría
I love the variety of everything in Venezuela, how different each region of the
country can be, and the large number of situations that inspire me to
develop something.
36 Days Of Type
I am a native of Caracas, a very chaotic city with too much history
in terms of design. Architects, designers, illustrators, and many more artists who are now recognized
worldwide have passed through Caracas, and all of them have left their
mark on the city.

36 Days Of Type
For a city with many problems, the visual
communicator has a huge amount of opportunities to inspire and generate
contributions to solve problems. I think that inspires me most in my city. I
like it, Caracas and its inhabitants have much to offer the world.
Saskya Tamayo
Saskya is a designer and art director from Caracas, Venezuela. Her beautiful flat illustrations feature important themes reflecting humanitarianism and more.

Humanified – Illustrations
Living in Venezuela is hard, it’s a hard place to live and love, but
there are so many things happening at the same time that you learn to
live in the moment.
Caracas Ilustrada
This is a multicultural country, so you learn from everything. Everything is made by the people and you can see they have so much in
common.

Caracas Ilustrada
Amazing, that’s the word to describe this community. They really
support young talented artists and they really want to know you. We
share what we love so you can talk with great artists and all of them are
kind.
Alejandro Herrera
Alejandro is a photographer from Caracas, Venezuela. Featuring compelling photos of unique faces, his photography expresses both amazing fashion and emotion.
Check out his work below, and see more in his portfolio.
Blossom
I’ve been living in Venezuela for a big part of my life and I’m in love
with the creative atmosphere that is constantly evolving. You can learn something new everyday.
Albus
Venezuela has been
through difficult times and the necessity to create becomes a passion
for knowing more about everything. It helps me to learn myself a
little bit better while trying to figure out what I really want.
Lover
Nemesis
As a
photographer I started out by taking pictures on the street. Then it became nature,
people, food and fashion. The Venezuelan art field and community means everything to me and we help each other every time by showing
the way we create during workshops and exhibitions. It’s been a very friendly experience for me and my career.
Catherin Villasmil
Catherin is a graphic artist from Trujillo, Venezuela. Her work features an eclectic mixture of adorable comic cartoons and clever graphic designs.
Check out her work below, and see more in her portfolio.
Azúquita Brillantica Logo
I love the food; the gastronomy of my country is the
only thing that is worth it. And certain landscapes; but I do not know,
because of the difficult situation that we are going through, if those
places are even as I remember them in my memory.
Illustrations
My style is based, more than
anything, on me. From how I perceive my surroundings, to how I make the
decisions about colors, everything is in my head
and my feelings.

The art community in my
city does not exist because, unfortunately, it does not have the value it needs.
But there are small groups that are dedicated to teaching drawing with small activities using didactic materials for children.
Marcos Ramos
Marcos is an editorial illustrator and
graphic designer from Caracas, Venezuela. His bold illustrations balance
minimalism and symbolism for a powerful result.
Check out his work below, and see more in his portfolio.
Triada
I am naturally comfortable here,
despite all its current problems. My family lives here, and before Hugo
Chávez, we lived well and were calm here. Under this communist
dictatorship in which we live and suffer, many people are looking for a better quality of life where
they do not fear a repressive regime of freedom of expression.
Communism is the Opium of Intellectuals of Low level
I try to communicate directly and
indirectly many messages at once, the grotesqueness of the reality and the
characters that play it for good or for evil.
Kids From the Street
With the Dictators Not Negotiated
Here for 20 years, politics have invaded
all the artistic fields, and therefore the different artists have been
inclined to be for or against the dictatorial regime that dominates the
country.
In my case, I am against it and I try to express my discontent and
my opinion. These
communist policies are wrong and only lead to misery, hunger, scarcity,
ignorance and backwardness in all its forms.
Many thanks to the artists who took time to answer my
questions and share a bit about themselves and how their country and/or culture
has affected their work. You can check out more of their work in the links
below:
