Open Source iOS Library Allowing You To Overlay Directions On Map Views Within Your App

Late last year I mentioned a library that allowed you to automatically present the user with a choice between the Maps app or Google Maps app if both were installed on their device called IntentKit.

Here’s a recently open sourced library from Mathias Tretter that allows you to overlay directions on a map view called MTDirectionsKit so you can avoid needing to jump from your app to the Maps app within an app showing directions to the users .

The library works with directions from the MapQuest Open Directions API, the Google Directions API, or the Bing Routes API, and can overlay directions on Map Kit maps or Google Maps.

Here’s an image from the homepage showing directions overlaid on a map, and in a textual manner using MTDirectionsKit:

You can find MTDirectionsKit on Github here and further information and instructions can be found on the MTDirectionsKit homepage.

You can find a demo project utilizing MTDirectionsKit working with Map Kit and Google Maps on Github here.

An interesting library if you’ve got an app that requires the user to frequently switch to the Maps app.
