For the past few days I have been able to play around with Clinch, which is somewhat similar to another app I just reviewed, Qwiki, but it does things a little different. If you read my review on Qwiki, you’ll see how much I raved about it and how simple and easy it was to use. Well, I didn’t think I would say this, but I think I may have found one that is even simpler. On top of that, Clinch adds some features that I think are pretty neat.

The easiest way to understand Clinch is that it takes your videos and pictures that you select and automatically puts them into a nice slideshow for you to watch and share with your friends and family. The first thing you need to do to get started is to choose some media either from your camera roll, Instagram or start snapping some pictures and shooting some video to use. When selecting media, you can have up to five video clips and thirty pictures in your slideshow.

After you select what you want, you then have the option to add clips and pictures from other sources. These can be from your friends that are on Clinch, public pictures in your area from Instagram or from Twitter. The nice thing about this feature is that let’s say that you are at an event with your friends and you are all taking pictures or shooting video on your iPhones. You can then take some shots from what they took at the event and incorporate it into your slideshow.

Once you have selected everything that you want, you can now customize your slideshow in a variety of ways. First, there are five different themes that you can choose from to make your video your own. Second, you can choose to add some background music by either selecting a song from your iPhone or by using what is called “Auto-Match for My Theme.” You can also add a 3D satelite view, map and location of where you are when you created the video. This feature is nice if you are making your video at the site of an event, that way you can show people where it happened in your slideshow. When you are done adjusting all your settings for the video, you can now let Clinch work its magic and create a good looking slideshow for you.

Sharing and Exploring
You definitely don’t want to have that video just for yourself, and are naturally going to want to share it with your friends and family. Your movies can be shared on Twitter and Facebook as well as emailed out to people. But Clinch is more than just a place to create and share your slideshows; there is a whole social networking feature as well.

Similar to a lot of other apps like this, Clinch has an Explore feature where you can see what others are creating. You can follow other users who are on Clinch, or you can also follow your friends as well. When you view other people’s videos you can “like” them, comment on them and also share them out to your social networks.

Easy to Use
The big thing that I appreciated about Clinch was the fact that it took the work out of having to create a slideshow on my own. There are times when I want to fire up iMovie and get a little creative, but with this app, I can just select the pictures and videos that I want and it does the rest for me — you can’t ask for much simpler than that.
The experience in using Clinch was very good and even though it was very easy to use, I felt like I got a quality end product that I was proud to share. I wouldn’t mind seeing a privacy option so that you could share videos with just people you wanted to share with and not let everyone who uses the app see your videos, but that is not a big deal.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Clinch was a pleasant experience and one that I will keep around to use in the future. I can definitely see how it can come in handy when you want to document an event where others are taking pictures and videos as well.
