A pretty common pattern seen in iOS apps is to zoom in on an image view when that image is tapped.
Here’s a library from Philippe Converset has created an open source user interface control that allows you to do this easily. You simply tap a view and it is automatically zoomed in on, and the zoomed in view also adjusts for orientation changes. Setup is done by supplying the control with an array of views.
This sequence of images below from the readme illustrates one image view being zoomed in on, and the orientation changed:
