Dear Aunt TUAW,
Is it normal for a Thunderbolt port to have small sparks when you plug a mini displayport cable in? Here’s a video showing the sparks in action…
This is my new MBP Retina. The video is a little hard to see because I had a hard time filming with my iPhone and plugging that in at the same time.
In any case, this doesn’t seem right. What do you think?
Your loving nephew,

Dear Chris,
Is it normal? Auntie called Apple and the representative there recommended that you bring it in for service.
The conversation went something like this: “So he’s seeing small sparks when plugging in the cable, as he described. Do you recommend him going to the Genius Bar?”
“Sparking? [Redacted]-yeah, get that thing in.”
No, Auntie can’t tell if this a mountain or a molehill (especially from a distance) so she decided to throw it out there to the TUAW reader pool: are any of you seeing what Chris saw? And if so, what’s your take on how normal or attention-needing this is?
Hugs,
Auntie T., who sees a spark at about 15-seconds into the video
