I am building a Magento store, and keep getting this: Fatal error: Out of memory

I get this error when I add new products or product images, or when you try to add a product to the shopping cart. It always gives the same Out of Memory error.
My host is 1and1.com Linux package. I was told it is mostly likely a host issue, but I know people running Magento successfully on 1and1.com…
