In the past I’ve stated how Core Animation is a great for certain types of 2D games, and shared resources such as the geek game board for iOS.
That being said there are certain small, but annoying issues that can rise up in particular related to timing, and performance.
I’ve come across an excellent set of tutorials presenting some excellent gems for core animation game development. Presenting pare ractical solutions for many problems such as loading in texture atlases, handling animation timing, and creating complex backgrounds.
