Tutorials: Building Games Quickly With LevelHelper And SpriteHelper

For those unfamiliar with the previously mentioned LevelHelper tool, this is an excellent tool designed to allow you to build game scenes in a drag and drop environment and define physical properties for game objects within the editor.  As you can probably guess I think it’s an excellent tool that supports Cocos2D, Cocos2D-X, the Corona SDK along with a couple of other non-iOS engines (AndEngine, and WiEngine).

I’ve previously mentioned some other tutorials on using LevelHelper and Spritehelper.

Ray Wenderlich has written another tutorial on building a game with SpriteHelper and LevelHelper using Cocos2D.  What’s differentabout this tutorial is that not only is it written in Ray’s usual easy to understand in-depth style, but covers the Cocos2D side of things in more detail, and provides a review of the SpriteHelper and LevelHelper tools.

You can find the tutorial on Ray’s website here:

Vladu Bogdan, the developer of LevelHelper has also recently added a demo project based on this previously mentioned Cocos2D SpaceManager tutorial for building an Angry Birds like game.  The tutorial has been recreated using LevelHelper – here’s a video showing the LevelHelper version of the tutorial in action:

You can find the tutorial download link in the article here.

These two tools continue to become even more useful, and Vladu has done a great job with updates and a community has begun to emerge around these tools.   You can find SpriteHelper, and LevelHelper in the mac app store.  A free version of SpriteHelper is available.
