Website Improvements

I have a website, www.dickermanlaw.com. I need changes made to it. It’s hard to describe in writing; I would prefer to speak. But here is specifically what I need, at least to start, which would require my providing the original copy. I will need to speak to the person doing the work, since it must be exact, and there might be more changes. Good English speaking skill is a must.

1. Home page:

–most important is that the reader know, in a couple of seconds, that he’s come to a site offering what he particularly is looking for. So it’s got to be very plain. I sought to do that with the first page I sent to the designer–I supplied pages for each section, thinking the whole pages would be reproduced without jumping around, giving a little introduction, etc. “This AV lawyer” and ending with the AV info. The site is fun to play around with, but the first thing they have to know is that I’m the kind of atty, with the right practice, that they’re looking for. That’s not clear as is. In keeping with that, can we put the entire text on the home page? And can we put, prominently, “This AV-Rated Lawyer Handles Business, Real Estate, and Personal Litigation”?

–can the displays, including text, be smaller? the pages seem overwhelming, and it would be helpful if less scrolling were necessary so that the reader gets to see more in a glance.

–can you make the page names at the top stand out more?

–the 4 small pictures are confusing, since there is no language under them to say what they are, and no instruction to drag mouse to find out. I would like to delete them, perhaps using just the photos on other pages.

–I think there are too many ways to access the pages, on the home page. Can we limit it to the list across the top, or put the same list at the bottom, in same or different design?

–the square at the left, the one that moves, is confusing. I think we should delete it if we’re going to have the entire text as noted above. I want the reader to see all the text without clicking to “read more.” I’m wondering if the background photo rotation should stay once we remove the rotating text box.

–The body of the home page should be the entirety of what I wrote for the Home page, beginning “If you are looking…” and ending with the AV Peer Review shot. As of now, only a little of that language appears on the first page, and only at the bottom.

–if we are going to put some additional bits of other pages on the home page, i think we should have place for each of them; it’s confusing to put 3, only, since when the reader doesn’t see the others, it’s confusing. I don’t want the reader to have to search for the buttons to move around.

–“About the firm” should be only the text I wrote called “firm overview.” It’s inconsistent now; on the first page discussing Dickerman, at the bottom, the text is correct; but when one clicks on the button on top, it goes to “firm overview.” “Firm overview” should be only the “I, William Dickerman” stuff. My “profile ” would be better, I think, on a separate page, right after “overview.”

–the close quotation marks at the end of the testimonial on the home page should be moved closer to the material quoted.

–“testimonials” box at bottom refers to “what our clients say,” but there’s no page with that name. Perhaps just remove the quotation marks so reader will just continue to the testimonials after the text. But, of course, if we’re going to remove the box at the bottom, that’s irrelevant.

2. Firm OVerview page

I would insert a closed quote mark at the end of the testimonial of Usen

3. My “profile” page: no change

4. “Practice areas” page: add “Vehicle accidents” under “entertainment matters”, with a checkbox?

5. “Case studies” page: okay

6. “Fees” page:

–in the para. beginning “hybrid”, put a space after the colon?

–I think “how do contingency fees work” should be lower case, as are the headings below it.

–would the page be jazzed up a bit with a photo? is it a good idea to have all text without some photo or graphic? (same goes for all pages that presently don’t have a photo.) I have other pictures that I supplied for possible use.

7. “testimonials”

–insert photo(s)?

–closed quotes at end of each testimonial.

8. “questions to ask”

–add photo(s)?

–could the first line, in caps, be just “Questions to Ask”, followed by, below that “…before hiring a lawyer”? This would avoid repetition of the phrase “qauestions to ask” in 2 lines.
