Make an Abstract Streak Logo Reveal Animation

Hello everyone! In this tutorial we’re going to show you how to create a particle streak logo animation with Trapcode Form.

Step 1

Create a new composition by clicking Menu > Composition > New Composition. Name it Abstract Streak Animation and change the resolution to 1280×720 and set the duration to 7 seconds.

1

Step 2

Create a new Solid by clicking Menu > Layer > New > Solid. Change the color to black. Change the resolution to 1280×720 and name it BG.

2

Step 3

Create a new solid clicking by Menu > Layer > New > Solid. The color doesn’t matter. Change the resolution to 1280×720 and name it Trapcode Form.

3

Step 4

I’m gonna use a custom map in Trapcode Form so I need to make a new composition. Name it Transition, change the resolution to 1280×720 and set the duration to 7 seconds.

4

Step 5

Let’s open the Transition comp and create a new Solid by clicking Menu > Layer > New > Solid. The color is important so we have to change it to black. Change the resolution to 1280×720 and name it BG.

5

Step 6

We also need a white Solid with the following settings. We’re gonna animate it with a simple rectangle mask.

6

Step 7

Select the Rectangle Mask tool from the toolbar and create a mask on the left side of the Transition rectangle layer.

7

Step 8

I’ll animate the mask from zero seconds to four seconds. As you can see I’m also using the Roughen Edges plug-in to make this mask a little bit organic looking around the edges.

8

Step 9

Here’s my Roughen Edges settings. You can apply this effect by clicking Effect > Stylize > Roughen edges.

9

Step 10

Let’s go back to the Organic Reveal comp, drag and drop the Transition comp, and turn it off.

10

Step 11

Select the Trapcode Form layer and go to Effect > Trapcode > Form. Let’s start to change the properties.

11

Step 12

Change the following settings under the Particle tab.

12

Step 13

This part is optional because you can use your own color settings. Set your colors and change the Map Opac+Color over to X. Here’s my color settings: #FA6C37 #0A80F5

13

Step 14

Under the Layer Maps let’s select the Transition comp. Let’s change the Size and Fractal Strength Map Over settings to XY.

14

Step 15

Let’s set the following Disperse and Twist and Fractal Field properties.

15

Step 16

Change the Kaleidoscope properties and we’re done.

16

Step 17

I would like to add some glow to achieve a more eye catching and vivid result. Go to Effect > Stylize > Glow and apply the following settings.

17

Step 18

Alt-Left Click on the 8 bpc text and change it to 32 bpc. The Glow plug-in works much better in 32 bit color depth though is does take a little more time to render.

18

Step 19

Let’s add Curves by clicking Effect > Color Correction > Curves and apply the following settings. Now we have a nice looking particle streak animation. The following steps will explain how I made the Aetuts+ logo animation and the flare effect.

19

Step 20

Create a new composition by clicking Menu > Composition > New Composition. Name it Logo, change the resolution to 1280×720 and set the duration to 7 seconds.

20

Step 21

Let’s put the Aetuts+ logo in the Logo comp. We have to put this Logo comp in the Abstract Logo comp.

21

Step 22

Let’s use the Ellipse Mask tool to create a circular mask reveal animation. You have to animate the mask path as we did it in Step 7.

22

Step 23

A simple mask reveal is a little bit boring so we’ll add a Fast Blur by going to Effect > Blur&Sharpen > Fast Blur and then also Turbulent Displace with an expression applied to the Evolution expression by Alt-Left Clicking on the stopwatch and typing time*150) and we can also animate the Amount and Size properties.

23

Step 24

This animation part is optional but here’s a screenshot of how you can position the keyframes.

24

Step 25

Create a new Solid by clicking Menu > Layer > New > Solid. Change the color to black. Change the resolution to 1280×720 and name it Optical Flares.

25

Step 26

Go to Effect > Video Copilot > Optical Flares and let’s first change the basic settings. This is an optional part. We can use a default lens preset and just animate the Size and the Brightness properties. Just try to cover the Logo Animation comp with the flare.

26

Step 27

We can make a simple color correction with Curves and add the Turbulent Displace plug-in using the same time*150 expression in the Evolution property.

27

Conclusion
