iOS 8.1.1 kills Pangu untethered jailbreak

As we announced yesterday the release of the firmware ios 8.1.1 beta has shown that no longer works with the untethered jailbreak Pangu8.

Rough translation: Apple has released iOS 8.1.1 beta to developers. After our tests, it has patched the jailbreak exploit. Anyone who wish to jailbreak, please seize the chance to upgrade to iOS 8.1 and do so before Apple officially releases iOS 8.1.1.

PS. This is one of the developers of Pangu team.

From the PanGu site:
2 . Unable to jailbreak devices that are upgraded via OTA
The firmware upgraded via OTA affects Pangu 8 a lot and usually causes Pangu 8 to fail. If you have failed many times, please try to download the latest firmware and restore your iOS devices. In addition, Pangu itself now provides a functionality to easily restore iOS devices and automatically complete the activation and jailbreak, through a simple one-click.

Help

1. Preparations for jailbreak.

Please backup your device before using Pangu. Although we have successfully tested Pangu with a number of devices, we strongly suggest you backup your data via iTunes before jailbreak.
In order to increase the success rate, please switch your device to airplane mode, and disable passcode and “find my iPhone” functions in system setting.

3. the warning of “Disk is almost full”.

This is because during the jailbreaking process, Pangu will write some important files into the system partition and lead to this warning. However, it will not affect your device. If Cydia is installed, it will re-adjust the system files on its first launch and then the warning would disappear.

4. DO NOT delete “com.apple.mobile.softwareupdated.plist” or disable the service.

DO NOT delete this file “com.apple.mobile.softwareupdated.plist” or disable the service. Otherwise, It will cause your devices unable to reboot.

5. Suggestions after several failed attempts

1. Please switch to the airplane mode, try again.
2. Please reboot both your iOS devices as well as your computer, and try again.
3. Please use the restore functionality in Pangu to restore your device, and try again.

Cydia Update to 0.9.5016 fix passcode loop

It’s official, Cydia has finally been updated to patch all of those pesky little bugs many have been experiencing after jailbreaking on iOS 8. The latest Cydia update targets the few who have been stuck in a bootloop after jailbreaking their device. Unfortunately this update won’t help those affected receive their data back but it will prevent any issues in the future. Cydia Substrate has also seen an update to 0.9.5016 which improves underlying stability and compatibility of iOS 8 with Cydia. It’s nice to see all of this coming together into a very stable and usable jailbreak.

New-Cydia-iOS-8

This patch will be implemented into a new version of Pangu which should see the light of day tomorrow and will supposedly have the long awaited Mac version. Of course I will be showing the latest version tomorrow in my latest tutorial. Mac users will finally be able to enjoy the latest Cydia Update in the updated Pangu tool.

Those who are already jailbroken are advised to open Cydia, go to the “changes” tab and hit “refresh”. Immediately download and install the updates and reboot your device. You are now protected from any bootloop issues and will enjoy a faster more reliable jailbreak. Those who have not been able to jailbreak yet, don’t worry as the tool tomorrow will carry all of the latest changes and improvements.

iOS 8 and iPad mini. A powerful combination.

With an easy-to-use interface, amazing features, and security at its core, iOS 8 makes your iPad more capable than ever. It’s designed to look beautiful and work beautifully, so even the simplest tasks are more engaging. And iOS 8 is engineered to take full advantage of the powerful A7 chip, ultrafast wireless, and brilliant Retina display of iPad mini 3.

iPad-mini-3

iOS 8. Our most advanced
mobile OS ever.

What is it about iOS 8 that makes it the most advanced mobile operating system? It’s the details. The thoughtful new features. And the way it all works seamlessly with the hardware. It’s the fact that Mail is full of new time-saving features, like being able to tap an event or phone number and instantly add it to your calendar or contacts. Or that Safari is even more intuitive, with a new Sidebar that slides out to reveal your bookmarks, Reading List, and Shared Links. Or that developers have new tools like Metal to build apps you’ve never imagined. Or that you’ll see new keyboard options. From top to bottom, iOS 8 makes iPad mini 3 even more amazing.

Great apps included. iPad mini comes ready to work. And play.

iPad mini 3 comes with apps that help you do the things you do every day. Like check your email, make a video call, or consult Siri to check a sports score. Or you can write the next great novel, nail your presentation, and compose a score for your home movie — all from your iPad mini. And these apps are optimized for its 64-bit architecture. So they run smoothly and quickly and make iPad mini — and you — capable of just about anything.

iPad-mini-3-display

Family Sharing. It’s good to share. And now you can do it with all your content.

Family Sharing brings harmony to your family’s digital life. Up to six people in your family can share purchases from iTunes, iBooks, and the App Store without sharing accounts. You can pay for family purchases with the same credit card and approve kids’ spending right from a parent’s device. And you can easily share photos, a family calendar, and more to help keep everyone connected.

One touch unlocks your iPad mini 3.

With Touch ID, you put your finger on the Home button, and just like that, your iPad unlocks. And Touch ID is capable of 360?degree readability. So no matter how you’re holding it — portrait, landscape, or anything in between — your iPad knows who you are.

Official iPad air 2 available

Has just been released on the official Apple iPad 2 air here are the pictures and features:

With iPad, we’ve always had a somewhat paradoxical goal: to create a device that’s immensely powerful, yet so thin and light you almost forget it’s there. A device that helps you do amazing things, without ever getting in your way. iPad Air 2 is all that. And then some.

iPad-air-2

Security based on a one?of?a?kind design: your ?ngerprint.

iPad Air 2 comes with our breakthrough Touch ID technology. It gives you an unprecedented level of security because it uses nature’s most perfect password: your fingerprint. So with just one touch, you can instantly unlock your iPad Air 2. But Touch ID goes beyond that. You can also make secure purchases in iTunes, iBooks, and the App Store. And with Apple Pay, you can unlock an entire world of online shopping that’s fast, convenient, and secure.

Learn more about Touch ID

ipad-air-2-id

ipad-air-2-touchid

The technology behind Touch ID.

The Home button on iPad Air 2 is made from a sapphire crystal surrounded by a stainless steel ring. When you touch the button, the steel ring detects your finger and the crystal sends an image of your fingerprint to a sensor. Software then reads the ridges of your print and confirms a match. And it all happens in the blink of an eye.

DesignSo capable, you won’t want to put it down. So thin and light, you won’t have to.

The ?rst thing you’ll notice is how incredibly thin and light it is. iPad Air 2 is an impossibly thin 6.1 millimeters, making it our thinnest iPad ever. And it weighs less than a pound. So it’s even easier to hold in one hand and take with you anywhere.

Ingenuity makes it thin.
Aluminum makes it strong.

When it was introduced four years ago, the original iPad set the standard for thinness and lightness. Since then, iPad has become even thinner and lighter. But thanks to its durable aluminum unibody, iPad Air 2 doesn’t sacri?ce strength in the pursuit of thinness. From the moment you pick it up, you feel how sturdy and rigid it is.

Not just a thinner display.
A better display.

The displays on previous generations of iPad used three separate components. iPad Air 2 changes all that, combining those three layers into just one. This eliminates gaps between layers, along with the internal re?ectance caused by those gaps. The result? Colors are richer, contrast is greater, and images are sharper and more vivid.

Ipad-air-2-display

Your content, right at your ?ngertips.

The LCD layer is now closer to your eyes (and your ?ngers), so when you touch the screen it feels as if you’re touching your content. And we’ve improved the sensitivity of the screen, so it tracks your finger even more accurately, especially when you make quick gestures. Which means everything you do — playing games, sur?ng the web, enjoying photos and videos — becomes more personal, immediate, and immersive.

The lowest re?ectance of any tablet.

iPad Air 2 features a custom-designed antireflective coating that reduces glare by 56 percent, making it the least re?ective tablet in the world. In virtually any kind of environment — o?ces, classrooms, outdoors — everything is clearer and more readable.

Every detail counts.Even the ones measured in microns.

The beveled edges of the aluminum unibody are cut with a mono-crystalline diamond to tolerances measured in microns. (For reference, the width of a human hair is about 75 microns.) That level of detail may seem excessive. But every detail adds up to a better overall experience.

Install Cydia:

Step 1: If you haven’t already, make a backup of your device’s content.

Step 2: Download the latest Cydia .deb file from here. You’re also going to be download the cydia-Iproj file from here.

Step 3: Once the .deb files are on your machine, you’ll need to SFTP the file onto your device. To do this, Mac users should opt for Cyberduck, while those on Windows are advised to use WinSCP.

Step 4: On your device, navigate to Settings > Wi-Fi, and find the hotspot that both your device and PC / Mac are connected to. Next to the connection’s details, hit the “i” and make note of the IP address.

cydia-ios8.1.1

Step 5: Using your designated SFTP client, key in the IP address as well as “root” for username and “alpine” for the password; ignoring the quotations, of course.

Step 6: Once the file browser appears, drop the .deb files in the root folder of your device.

Step 7: This is where things might get a tad tricky. Next, you’ll be firing in commands that you may not be familiar with, so ensure to watch closely if you’re not familiar with this process. To start an SSH command line session on Windows, hit Ctrl + T and on Mac, hit ? + T.

Step 8: Finally, you’ll need to run the command:

dpkg -i cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb

Now run this command:

dpkg -i cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb

Step 9: Reboot your device.

Now your iDevice is jailbroken with Lydia installed!

iPad Air 2 Features 3 Cores, 2GB RAM + Video

In the run-up to the announcement of the iPad Air 2, many were touting it as a powerhouse, and although Apple made a bit of a song and dance of its speed at last week’s event, the Geekbench results now back up these claims. As the title suggests, the A8X is a triple-core configuration clocked at 1.5GHz, and as well as that, Apple has also bundled in 2GB of RAM.

The mobile industry has been caught in a bit of a specs race over the past few years, and it is one that Apple has largely distanced itself from. While competitors have sought to impress with octa-core CPUs and, in some cases, 4GB of RAM, the Mac maker has gone the other way, seeking to refine what, on paper, would appear to be less power.

iPad-Air-in-Gold

The A7 of yesteryear, which trickled out to the iPad Air, iPad mini 2 and iPhone 5s, was a 64-bit offering, and such was the manner in which Apple had applied it, that, for the most part, it kept up an even exceeded the performance of some apparently more powerful competitors.

Naturally, this year’s A8 processor has retained its 64-bit status, and with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus seeing speed gains of 15% over the A7, has made a marked improvement. But whereas the first-gen iPad Air was rather similar to the Retina iPad mini internally, the iPad Air 2 packs a significantly meaner punch versus its smaller cousin.

The second-gen Air, which is, in fact, the sixth-gen iPad featuring that 9.7-inch display, has yet to be released to the public, but some Geekbench 3 test results offer an insight into its processing might. The A8X is a triple-core CPU which, as aforementioned, is clocked at 1.5GHz, and although a tri-core setup is rather unorthodox, it’s fair to say that it will render the iPad Air 2 significantly more powerful than its peers running iOS.

ipadair2-performance

The 2GB of RAM is also a first, and it’s amazing to think that while we’re accustomed to at least 2 or 3GB of RAM in high-end smartphones and tablets, Apple’s mobile products have survived for so long on just the one.

Intriguingly, the single-core benchmarks reveal a slight increase over the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, both of which are almost identically matched. Indeed, the extra 100MHz of clock speed will have played a significant role in this reading, and if you’re on the hunt for a tablet with sheer performance, the iPad Air 2 may be the one for you.

The multi-core benchmarks, for those interested, equate to a 55% bump over the new iPhone models, which includes the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus both, and 68% boost over the original iPad Air, so while it seems a near certainty that the next-gen Apple handset will also be treated to more RAM around this time next year, I’m sure many will be feeling a little disappointed that it didn’t happen this time around.

iOS 8.02 – 8.1 Jailbreak Status

So, iOS 8 is out, and many are looking to jailbreak iOS 8, iOS 8.0.2, iOS 8.1 already on their iPhones, iPads and iPod touches. Below, we look at the current state of play in an attempt to assess when one might come about.

With iOS 7, we were somewhat spoilt, with Evad3rs covering the earlier builds before Chinese team Pangu came through to jailbreak iOS 7.1 and up. But essentially, we’re back to square one, and as millions flock to download iOS 8, where do we stand?
i0n1c, the German security researcher and perpetual jailbreaker, suggested that Apple hadn’t quite patched all of the exploits found in iOS 7.1.1 with the iOS 8 betas. What this means is, while current version of Pangu won’t work for iOS 8, the jailbreak scene has a potential building block from which to produce yet another miracle. It all boils down to whether Apple has plugged the remainder of the holes with the final release of iOS 8, though, and until those in the know have had the chance to scrutinize it, we couldn’t possibly say either way.

iOS-8-Jailbreak-untethered

The take-home here, folks, is that until the major forces in the jailbreak world have had a chance to assess the public release and henceforth offer their takes on the changes, we don’t really know the ifs, the hows or the whens of an iOS 8 untethered jailbreak.

Neither Evad3rs nor Pangu has been particularly vocal at this point, but given that the former includes several trusted, long-standing members of the community including Pod2g and MuscleNerd, here’s to hoping that we’ll have more information very soon.

It is important to note that if you update to iOS 8 today, you will lose your jailbreak that you have on iOS 7.x, and since signing window is now closed for iOS 7.1.2, downgrading is not possible. MuscleNerd has also confirmed this:

MN-iOS-8

So if you like your jailbreak, DO NOT update to any version of iOS 8 yet as there is no jailbreak available for it.

With all the controversies that have afflicted jailbreakers in recent months, it’s likely that many will have been scared off, but even though there’ll always be an element of risk in opening up what is essentially root access, there are also plenty of benefits to be reaped via Cydia.

Pangu jailbreak team is confirmed to be working on an iOS 8 jailbreak.
